Nest has announced the end of support for Nest Learning Thermostats (1st and 2nd gen). Your thermostat will no longer connect to or work in the Google Nest app or Google Home app starting on October 25, 2025.
Affected users will receive an email notification with an offer. Affected devices:
- Nest Learning Thermostat (1st gen, 2011)
- Nest Learning Thermostat (2nd gen, 2012)
- Nest Learning Thermostat (2nd gen, Europe version, 2014)
What this means for you:

Starting October 25, 2025, your device will be unpaired and removed from your Nest app or Home app. This also removes third-party assistants and other connected features like Home/Away Assist. Nest Protects will also disconnect from the thermostat and emergency shut off will no longer run. you won't be able to:
- Check the status of your thermostat in the Nest or Home app.
- Remotely control the device
- Receive notifications
- Change settings from your phone or tablet
- You can still continue to control your thermostat directly on your device.
- The pre-set schedules will continue to work uninterrupted. Check and manage auto-schedule settings.
- Switch between temperature modes. To learn more, refer to Nest thermostat temperature modes.
- Access all other features and settings available on the thermostat itself.
- The devices will no longer receive software or security updates, which may lead to decreased performance with continued use.

Depending on the number of impacted thermostats per home, you’ll receive a unique promo link for a Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen). If you are eligible and need more than 3 devices, please reach out to Google Support.
Multiple thermostats in one home (structure)
If you have:
- One thermostat, you can get one discounted Nest Learning Thermostat (4th gen).
- 2 thermostats, you can get up to 2 discounted Nest Learning Thermostats (4th gen). Tap the drop-down and choose one or 2 units.
- 3 thermostats, you can get up to 3 discounted Nest Learning Thermostats (4th gen). Tap the drop-down to choose one, 2, or 3 units.
Multiple homes (structures): You’ll receive one email per structure. Each email will have a different coupon code depending on how many affected thermostats are in a home.
