Video event feedback and donation for the Google Home app

Important: This feature is not available for homes that have more than one Google Home app Admin. The user lending program will be discontinued (and all associated clips will be deleted). We encourage you to utilize the data donation program instead.

When you donate your Google Nest video and audio data in the Google Home app, it helps Google understand its machine learning accuracy and feature quality.

If you add an Admin to your home after you've lent a clip or clips, you can still find or delete those clips in the Data Donation Manager. However, you won't be able to submit new clips.

Types of data you can donate to Google Nest

You can donate the data that appears as events in Activity or from your camera History. When you donate your data, Google receives the selected camera or audio clip.

This includes any associated metadata such as date, time, location, data type, and more. Every time you submit feedback, it'll show a reminder that you opted in to donate your data to Google.

What happens when you donate your data

• You maintain ownership of your data at all times.
• Your data is used to improve Google’s services, including AI models.
• If you share your home with other people, you should inform them that you've donated data that might include an audio or video recording of them.
• Your data isn't shared outside of Google.
  • Your feedback and video may be reviewed by human reviewers after de-identification for the purpose of troubleshooting and AI model training (if the video is donated).
• Google stores the data you donated until you revoke your permission for that data.
  • If you delete the Activity card, History event, or device history, Google may continue to use the data until you revoke your permission. Learn how to withdraw permission to use your data.
  • If you have a Google Home Premium subscription and your subscription's video history period expires, the recorded video clip is generally deleted and is no longer accessible to you. However, Google may retain donated video data until you revoke your permission for its use.
  • We may delete recorded video if it includes explicit, violent, dangerous, or offensive content.
  • Data older than 18 months will be automatically deleted on an ongoing basis.
• Once you revoke your permission, Google will stop using that data to develop AI models. AI models previously developed using your data will continue to be used and improved upon.

Manage your data

You can check which video clips you've donated to Google and revoke your permission for Google to use that data in the Data Donation Manager.

Share feedback

You can share feedback about your video clips with Google to help Google improve your experience and troubleshoot issues. You can also choose to donate your video feedback clips to Google, which helps with product improvement and AI model training.

1. In the Google Home app , open the video event for which you want to share.
2. While the event is selected, tap Thumbs up or Thumbs down .
3. Fill out the feedback form with the information requested.
   • Optional: Turn on Use clip for product improvement and AI model training.
4. Tap Submit video clip and feedback to submit your feedback.

Withdraw permission to use your data

You can revoke your permission for your data at any time. When you revoke your permission, the data we received pursuant to your permission will only be used for troubleshooting.

1. Open the Google Home app .
2. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or Initial.
3. Tap Home settings Privacy Data donation.
4. Select a video clip to display the meta data, view the clip, or withdraw the clip.
   • Delete individual clips:
     • Select the clip you want to delete.
     • Tap Withdraw clip Withdraw.
   • Delete multiple clips:
     • Tap Edit .
     • Select the clips you want to delete.
     • Tap Withdraw clip  Withdraw.
