Nest Renew seasonal adjustments

With Nest Renew seasonal adjustments, you'll get small changes made automatically to your thermostat's scheduled temperatures to help you save energy and stay comfortable. Each temperature change is small so you might not even notice.

When you sign up for Nest Renew, you're enrolled by default in automatic seasonal adjustments. You can unenroll at any time in your Nest Renew settings.

Note: Seasonal adjustments only work with the following thermostats:

  • Nest Learning Thermostat (3rd gen)
  • Nest Thermostat E
  • Nest Thermostat

How to tell which Nest thermostat you have

How it works

  • Near the beginning of a heating or cooling season, seasonal adjustments will make up to three thermostat temperature schedule tune-ups.
  • The timing of these changes is personalized and based on your past heating or cooling usage.

How to unenroll or re-enroll

To change your automatic seasonal adjustments enrollment, go to your account settings on the Nest Renew portal under "Energy Shift Settings" and then Get automatic seasonal adjustments.

Note: For seasonal adjustments to work, you also need to set up a temperature schedule for your thermostat. If you're enrolled in seasonal adjustments but don't get them, make sure your thermostat has a temperature schedule.

If you enroll in seasonal adjustments, you'll get an email letting you know when a seasonal adjustment is about to happen. This will typically happen three times a year:

  • When the weather starts to get warm and you switch to cooling
  • When the weather starts to get cold and you switch to heating

If you don't want seasonal adjustments to be made, the email also provides a link to your settings to change your preference.

Even if you've unenrolled from automatic seasonal adjustments, you'll still receive a notification on your compatible thermostat for each adjustment. The notification will allow you to accept or decline the adjustment.

How it works with other Nest energy-saving features

When you're enrolled in Nest Renew seasonal adjustments, Nest Renew automatically coordinates those adjustments with Savings Finder and Seasonal Savings, so you don't need to change the settings for those existing features.

After the first season, Nest Renew seasonal adjustments will automatically take precedence and you won't be presented with Seasonal Savings adjustments or Savings Finder Comfort or Sleep preset adjustments.

During your first season with Nest Renew seasonal adjustments, the adjustments you're offered can depend on when you enroll in Nest Renew. For instance, you could be offered one adjustment from Seasonal Savings and another temperature schedule change from Nest Renew seasonal adjustments.

This will depend on the following:

  • If you enrolled in Nest Renew after choosing to use Savings Finder or Seasonal Savings for the current season, you'll get both an adjustment for Savings Finder or Seasonal Savings (depending on which Nest thermostat you have) and another one from Nest Renew seasonal adjustments.
  • If you enrolled in Nest Renew before the start of Savings Finder or Seasonal Savings for the current season, or if you enrolled in Nest Renew after declining either program, you'll be offered Nest Renew seasonal adjustments only.
