Fix an unused Google Home Premium subscription

Important: This article does not apply to 1st gen Nest Aware subscriptions.

In rare cases, you may experience issues that are caused by an unused Google Home Premium subscription. These issues may happen because:

  • You’ve been charged for a subscription in a home that you’re no longer part of.
  • You have a subscription that you can’t assign to a camera or home.

You’ll receive notifications if you have an unused subscription. These notifications may come as:

  • A message at the top of the GStore subscription page that says, “Action required. You’re paying for subscriptions but not receiving service.” This is either because you’re no longer a member of the home or because the home was deleted.
  • An email titled, “You left [home address],” to notify you that you’ve been removed from a home that has a Google Home Premium subscription.
  • New information in your Google Home app's Activity that says your Google Home Premium needs a home.

To fix issues caused by an unused Google Home Premium subscription, you can either assign the unused subscription to a home or cancel it.

Assign your unused Google Home Premium subscription to a home

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Choose the home you want to assign the subscription to.
    • If you have one home or the home you want to add to your subscription to is already selected, proceed to the next step.
    • If you have more than one home in the app, tap Home , and then the home name to switch between homes.
    • If you don’t have a home in the app, tap Add a home. The app then walks you through how to create a home and assign the subscription.
  3. At the top right, tap your Profile picture or Initial and then Home Settings and then Subscriptions.
  4. Tap Google Home Premium or the subscription you want to assign to your home and then Apply.

Cancel an unused Google Home Premium subscription

Important: If you cancel Google Home Premium, billing auto-renewal will stop. You won't be granted a refund for the unused billing period, even if the subscription isn't being used or is no longer needed.

If you don't want to use the subscription on any home, cancel the unused subscription to avoid being charged.

  1. Go to the Google Store.
    • If you’re not already signed in, sign in to the Google Account you use to manage subscriptions for your home in the Google Home app.
  2. Select your Account icon.
  3. Tap Subscriptions. A message at the top of the page lets you know which subscriptions are no longer receiving service.
  4. Tap Cancel.

Tip: You can also cancel your Google Home Premium subscription on Google Play Store. Learn how to cancel, pause, or change a subscription on Google Play.
