Change floodlight settings

Use the Home app to customize your Google Nest floodlight settings.

Choose what turns on your floodlight

You can select what triggers your lights to turn on. Your options are Motion, Live viewing, or Camera events.

Motion and motion sensitivity

The Motion setting will turn the lights on whenever the floodlight’s motion sensor detects activity. You can also adjust the motion sensitivity setting to determine when the floodlight will turn on.

To find the right setting for your floodlight installation, when it's dark, choose a sensitivity setting then walk past your camera to see when the light turns on. Select a higher sensitivity so your floodlight will turn on when there’s activity further away, or a lower sensitivity for a shorter range.

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  3. Open Settings Settings gear and then What turns on the floodlight.
  4. Tap the switch to turn Motion on or off.
  5. Set Motion sensitivity to High, Medium, or Low.

Live viewing

Live viewing will turn the floodlight on automatically whenever you check your camera’s live stream at night.

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings  Settings gear and then What turns on the floodlight.
  4. Tap the switch next to Live viewing to toggle it on or off.

Camera events

If you turn on Camera events, then your floodlight will turn on whenever your camera starts recording.

The floodlight can turn on when your camera records an event, except for motion events. This way, your floodlight will turn on based on the intelligent detection, like people or vehicle, and activity zones you have set for your Nest Cam to record.

The floodlight can still turn on when its own sensor detects motion if you have turned on Motion like described above.

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings  Settings gear and then What turns on the floodlight.
  4. Tap the switch next to Camera events to toggle it on or off.

You can modify the events you want your camera to record in the camera settings.

Change the brightness

Note: If you start streaming video from your camera with the floodlight, the floodlight will turn on automatically.

  1. Open the Home app and select your floodlight.
  2. Drag the slider to change how bright the floodlight is.

Timer settings

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings  Settings gear and then Floodlight timer.
  4. Select how long you want your floodlight to stay on after it detects motion. You can choose from 10 seconds up to 5 minutes.

Daylight sensor settings

The light sensitivity settings change when your floodlight will turn on during the day if motion is detected. If you choose the Brighter setting, your floodlight can turn on earlier in the evening. If you choose Darkest, the floodlight will only turn on when it's very dark.

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings  Settings gear and then Daylight sensor
  4. Select Daylight sensor and choose the light setting you want to use.
