Uninstall Nest Floodlight

Follow the steps in this article to remove your Nest floodlight. Contact a local pro if you want help removing it.

Note: If you remove the camera only, your floodlight will turn on when triggered by motion if it's still connected to power.

Before you begin, make sure you have the following tools available:

  • Philips screwdriver
  • The hex key that came with your floodlight, or a compatible Allen wrench
  • Putty knife
  • Ladder, if necessary

Remove the floodlight

  1. Turn off power to your floodlight from your home’s breaker or fuse box. This will protect you and your equipment during installation.
  2. Use the hex key that came with your floodlight or an Allen wrench to remove the anti-theft screws attached to the camera. One is on the bottom of the floodlight by the wall, and one on the camera where the cord plugs in.
  3. Unplug the camera and set it aside. Once you unplug your camera, the floodlight will automatically be removed from the Home app.
  4. Turn the floodlight clockwise and pull to remove it from the mounting plate.
  5. Use a S hook to hang the floodlight from the mounting plate while you disconnect the wires.
  6. Remove the wire nuts, separate the floodlights wires from the power wires. Place the wire nuts back on the power wires.
  7. Remove the floodlight and the S hook and set them aside.
  8. Remove any caulk attached to the mounting plate cover with a putty knife.
  9. Remove the screws from the mounting plate cover and pull it off. You may need to use a flat head screwdriver to unclip the side, top and bottom clips.
  10. Remove the screws from the mounting plate and pull it away from the junction box.
  11. Remove the wire nut from the grounding wire, pull the wires apart, and put the wire nut back on the wire in the junction box.

After you’ve removed the floodlight, you can install your camera with a different mount, reinstall your old floodlight using the manufacturer’s instructions, or choose a different option for your home.
