Change Sleep Sensing settings

Sleep Sensing settings can be changed in the Google Home app through your Nest Hub’s settings.

Disable Sleep Sensing

To turn off Sleep Sensing on your Nest Hub:

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  3. At the top right, tap Settings  and then Sleep Sensing and then Deactivate Sleep Sensing and then Deactivate.

Note: Deactivating Sleep Sensing does not delete your sleep data in Google Fit. Learn more about disabling Sleep Sensing and deleting your sleep data. To reactivate, you need to set up and configure Sleep Sensing again.

Alternatively, you can temporarily pause and unpause Sleep Sensing. To do this, swipe up on your display and tap Sleep Sensing .

Turn sound events tracking on or off

With Sleep Sensing, you can turn tracking of sound events on or off, like coughing and snoring, in the Google Home app.

Turn on sound events tracking

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  3. At the top right, tap Settings  and then Sleep Sensing and then Set up sound event tracking.
  4. Read through the in-app notices and agree to turn on sound event tracking.

Turn off sound event tracking

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  3. At the top right, tap Settings  and then Sleep Sensing and then Deactivate sound event tracking and then Deactivate.

Note: When you deactivate 'sound event tracking', it stops your sound events from being added to your display. Existing information, however, may still appear on your display for several days.

Alternatively, you can switch the mic off on the back of your display to temporarily disable sound events.

Turn on or off personalised suggestions from Google Fit

If you don't want to get suggestions for better rest:

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  3. At the top right, tap Settings  and then Sleep Sensing and then Personalised sleep suggestions.
  4. Turn sleep suggestions on or off.

Note: When you turn off 'personalised sleep suggestions', it stops new suggestions from being added to your display. Existing suggestions, however, may still appear on your display for several days.

Change bedtime schedule

You can adjust your bedtime schedule to suit you best.

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  3. At the top right, tap Settings  and then Sleep Sensing and then Set a bedtime schedule.
  4. Choose a bedtime schedule and then tap Next.

Tip: Choose a time with which you can be consistent. Most people should get seven to nine hours of sleep.

Recalibrate

If you’ve moved where you sleep or Sleep Sensing isn't working as expected, you might need to recalibrate. Make sure that Sleep Sensing and Motion Sense are turned on before you proceed.

With the Google Home app

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  3. At the top right, tap Settings  and then Sleep Sensing and then Recalibrate.
  4. Follow the instructions on your Nest Hub to calibrate.

On your Nest display

  1. From the bottom of your display, swipe up.
  2.  Tap Settings  and then make sure that Motion Sense is on.
  3. Tap Sleep Sensing and then make sure that Sleep Sensing is on and then Calibrate device.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions on your display.

Tip: You can also recalibrate with Assistant voice commands. Say“Hey Google, calibrate sleep sensing” and follow any on-screen instructions. 

Turn Proactive health and fitness results on or off

Google Assistant can answer questions about your previous night's sleep on devices that have personal results turned on. 

To start or stop your sleep data from being displayed on your Nest Hub, turn 'Proactive health and fitness results' on or off.

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. At the top right, tap your account and then Assistant settings and then Wellness.
  3. Under 'Proactive health and fitness results', turn on the devices that you want your sleep data displayed proactively.

Start or stop sharing your sleep data with Assistant

When you share your sleep data with Assistant, it allows your sleep and wellness information to be shown on your Nest Hub and allows you to ask sleep-related questions. Learn more about disabling Sleep Sensing and deleting your sleep data.

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  3. At the top right, tap Settings  and then Sleep Sensing and then Assistant access to Fit.
  4. Turn on or off all data types that you want to start or stop sharing with Assistant.

Note: When you turn 'Assistant access to Fit' off, it prevents your Assistant from accessing your data. Data will still, however, get uploaded from your display to Google Fit unless you disable Sleep Sensing.
