Dark theme for Nest displays

Dark theme keeps your Nest display interface dark at night, or at times when a bright screen may be uncomfortable. You’ll be able to use your display and interact with Google Assistant with only the minimal level of screen brightness needed for the desired activity.

Set up Dark theme

You can set up and adjust Dark theme in device settings on your display or in the Google Home app . You can also use your voice. By default, Dark theme is set to "Auto."

On the display

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to expose the quick settings tray.
  2. In the bottom right, tap Settings  and then Display.
  3. Under "Theme," select the option you prefer. 
    • If you want the display to always use Light theme settings, select Light.
    • If you want the display to always use Dark theme settings, select Dark.
    • To have the display automatically switch between light and dark themes based on local sunset or sunrise and ambient light levels in the room, select Auto.

In the Google Home App

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap and hold your device's tile.
  3. At the top right, tap Settings  and then under "Device features," tap Display.
  4. Under "Theme," select the option you prefer. 
    • If you want the display to always use Light theme settings, select Light.
    • If you want the display to always use Dark theme settings, select Dark.
    • To have the display automatically switch between light and dark themes based on local sunset or sunrise and ambient light levels in the room, select Auto.

Control Dark theme with your voice

  • To turn on Dark theme, say “Hey Google, turn on Dark theme."
  • To turn off Dark theme, say "Hey Google, turn off Dark theme."
