Set and manage reminders on Google Home

You can set, ask about, and delete reminders on Google Home. Notifications will appear on Google Home and your phone at the time you set. Location reminders are coming soon. 

This feature is available in English in the U.S., U.K., Australia, and Canada. 

Step 1. Make sure your phone is running Android version M+. 

Your phone must be running Android version M+. Here's how to check and update your Android version. 

Step 2. Set up personalization

One person using Google Home

Personal results must be turned on to manage reminders. If you don't turn on Personal results, you'll still see a reminder notification on Google Home but you won't be able to hear the reminder. 

  1. Make sure your mobile device or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi as your Google Home device.
  2. Open the Google Home app .
  3. In the top left corner of the Home screen, tap Menu .
  4. Verify that the Google Account  listed is the one linked to Google Home.  To switch accounts, click the triangle to the right of the account name and email address.
  5. Tap More settings. 
  6. Under "Devices," tap a Google Home device.
  7. Turn Personal results on  or off 
To prevent others from accessing your reminders, link your Google Account and voice to Google Home.
Multiple people using Google Home

If multiple people are using the same Google Home, everyone who wants to hear, set, and manage personal reminders on Google Home must link their Google Account and voice to Google Home, even the person who set up Google Home. This will prevent others from hearing and managing your reminders.

If you've already linked your Google Account and voice, skip these steps. 

  1. Open the Google Home app .
    1. Make sure the Google Home app is updated with the latest version.
  2. Make sure your phone or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as Google Home.
  3. Tap Menu  and make sure the Google Account listed is the one you want to link to your voice. To switch accounts, click the triangle next to the Account name and choose the correct Account. 
  4. In the top right corner of the app Home screen, tap Devices . Find the device card of the Google Home you'd like to link to your voice. 
  5. From the device card, tap the blue banner labeled Multi user is now available or Link your account.
  6. Tap CONTINUE. 
  7. If you haven’t already agreed to what is required to get help from your Assistant, you’ll see a screen outlining the permissions. Tap YES I’M IN. 
  8. Follow the prompts to teach Google Home to recognize your voice. You'll say "Ok Google” twice and “Hey Google” twice. Note: This turns on Personal results.
  9. To test a few phrases, say something like, “Ok Google, tell me about my day.” Tap CONTINUE. 
  10. To invite other people to link their Google Account & voice for tailored results, tap INVITE, choose your communication method, and send the invite. To skip this step, tap No thanks.
  11. You'll see a list of devices you've linked to your voice. These devices will read personal info when they hear your voice. If your Assistant isn’t recognizing your voice correctly, tap Teach it your voice again to try again. 

Set and manage reminders

You can create and manage reminders directly on Google Home or from the Google app on your phone. 

On Google Home
To do this...  Say "Ok Google" or "Hey Google," then...

Create a time-based reminder

Note: Location-based reminders aren't supported

"Remind me to <title> <date> <time>."

Ex. "Remind me to call Mom this Sunday at noon.

Create a recurring time-based reminder

"Remind me to <action> <frequency> <time>."

Ex.  "Remind me to take my medicine every day at 8pm."

Ask about a reminder

""What are my reminders?"

"What are my reminders tomorrow?"

"When is my reminder to <title>?"

Delete a single or all reminders

"Delete my reminders for tomorrow"

"Delete reminder to <title>."

"Delete all of my reminders."

 
From your phone
  1. Make sure your phone or tablet is on the same Wi-Fi network as Google Home.
  2. Make sure the Google Account signed in to your mobile phone or tablet browser is the same account used to link to Google Home. 

Create a reminder 

There are two ways to create a reminder. On your phone, touch & hold the Home button, then...

  • Say "Add a reminder" and thensay or type the reminder information or
  • Tap Explore & Your stuff and thenYour stuff and thenReminders and then Add reminder and thensay or type the reminder information.

See your reminders

There are two ways to see your reminders. On your phone, touch & hold the Home button, then...

  • Tap  Explore & Your stuffand thenYour stuff and thenUnder "Reminders," tap See all. You'll see your top three reminders sorted by time or 
  • Say "What are my reminders?"

Mark as done

  1. On your phone, touch & hold the Home button and then Explore & Your stuffand thenYour stuff and then find the reminder and thenMark as done.

Edit a reminder 

  1. On your phone, touch & hold the Home button and then Explore & Your stuffand thenYour stuff.
  2. Tap the reminder and thenmake your edits and thenSave. 

Delete a reminder

  1. On your phone, touch & hold the Home button and then Explore & Your stuffand thenYour stuff.
  2. Tap the reminder and then  Delete and then OK.

Get reminders

Reminders set on Google Home and any Google app, like Calendar and Inbox, can be accessed on Google Home and your phone.

Reminder set on Google Home using a voice command

When it's time for your reminder your Google Assistant on Google Home will:

  1. Say "I have a reminder for [name]" and the LED light on Google Home will flash. Then a single white light on Google Home will remain on for 10 minutes. 
  2. Hear the reminder by using one of these voice commands:
    1. "Ok Google, what's up?"
    2. "Ok, Google, what are my notifications?"
    3. "Ok Google, what are my reminders?"
  3. After your Assistant reads your reminder, it will be marked as read. 

Reminder set on phone

When it's time for your reminder:

  1. The LED light on Google Home will flash. Then a single white light on Google Home will remain on for 10 minutes. 
  2. Hear the reminder by using one of these voice commands:
    1. "Ok Google, what's up?"
    2. "Ok, Google, what are my notifications?"
    3. "Ok Google, what are my reminders?"
  3. After your Assistant reads your reminder, it will be marked as read.

You can ask about the day's reminders at any time by saying "Ok Google, what are my reminders?"

On your phone
When it’s time for your reminder to appear, you'll see a notification on your device. If you don't need the reminder anymore, swipe it away. 
 

Manage reminder notifications 


Turn off all reminder notifications on Google Home

To turn off the vocal notifications and the LED light notification on your Google Home,

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. In the top left corner of the Home screen, tap Menu .
  3. Verify that the Google Account that is listed is the one linked to Google Home.  To switch accounts, click the triangle to the right of the account name and email address.
  4. Tap More settings. 
  5. Under "Devices," tap the Google Home you want to adjust and then Notifications and then .
Turn off all reminder notifications on your phone

Touch and hold the Home button and then Explore & Your stuff and thenSettings and thenDevices and thenPhone and thenTurn off Notifications.
