Set up payments for Google Assistant on Google Home

Set up payment information and addresses for your packages and other purchases. Payment functionality is only available in the US. 

Step 1: Set up payments

To start using payments with your Google Assistant on Google Home, you must set up your payment preferences. Important: These payment settings affect the Google Assistant on Google Home and Pixel. Settings for other Google products, like Google Play, Google Express, or YouTube, aren't affected.

Set up payments
  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. In the bottom right corner of the Home screen, tap Account
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Under PERSONAL INFO,  tap Payments and then GET STARTED.
  5. Read the Terms of Service. Scroll down and tap ACCEPT. 
  6. Choose your default payment method:
    1. If you have already added a payment method for another Google service, for example Google Play, you can choose that payment method. Tap NEXT.
    2. If you need to add a payment method, tap Add credit or debit card.
      1. Enter the card information, billing name, billing street address, and phone number. Review the card details and tap SAVE.  ​
      2. This new payment method is now selected as your default payment method. Tap NEXT. 
  7. Choose your delivery address:
    1. If you have already added a delivery address for another Google service, you can choose that delivery address. Tap NEXT.
    2. If you need to add an address, tap Add new address. 
      1. Enter name, delivery address, and phone number. Tap SAVE.  ​
  8. Select which Google Home(s) can make payments. Note: This screen only appears if you have successfully set up Google Home(s):
    1. You'll see a list of all Google Homes that are successfully set up.
    2. Next to each Google Home, you'll see a toggle that controls the Personal results for that particular device. Remember, Personal results controls whether a specific Google Home can use your personal information, including payments and other things like email, calendar, and flights. 
    3. To allow Google Home to use your personal information, slide the slider next to that device to the right On. Tap DONE. 
    4. To prevent Google Home from using your personal information, slide the slider next to that device to the left Off . Tap DONE.
    5. Important:  If you turn off Personal results because you don't want your Assistant to help with payments, it won’t be able to help with other personal information like flights, shopping lists, calendars, etc. However, if you turn OFF payments and keep Personal results ON, your Assistant can still help other personal information, like calendar and flight info.  

Step 2: Change payment settings

You can adjust your payments settings or turn off payments from the Google Home app.  Change default payment method
  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. In the bottom right corner, tap Account .
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Scroll down to find the section labeled "Google Account settings."
  5. Under “PERSONAL INFO”,  tap Payments and thenPayment method.
  6. Choose a different payment method or tap Add credit or debit card to add a payment method. 
  7. This card will now be used as your default payment method. 
Change default delivery address
  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. In the bottom right corner, tap Account .
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Under “PERSONAL INFO,” tap Paymentsand thenPayment method.
  5. Tap Payments and thenDelivery address.
  6. Choose a different delivery address or tap Add new address to add an address. 
  7. This address will now be used as your default delivery address.

Turn off payments for all of Google Assistant on all devices

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. In the bottom right corner, tap Account .
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Under “PERSONAL INFO,” tap Payments and then slide the slider next to “Pay through your Assistant” to the left Off. You'll no longer be able to use payments with your Google Assistant on any device, including Pixel.

Turn off payments for a specific Google Home device

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. In the bottom right corner, tap Account .
  3. Tap Settings > ASSISTANT.
  4. Under “Assistant devices,”  select your device .
  5. Within "Personal results", slide the slider on On.
