Settings for Google Home devices

You can customise Google Home device(s) by changing your settings. If you have more than one Google Home device, you can customise the settings for each individual Google Home. For example, if you don't want the Google Home device placed in your living room to read out personal information controlled be Personal results, don't turn on that setting for that particular Google Home device.

What you can manage in Google Home device level settings

Device name
  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. In the top left corner of the Home screen, tap Menu .
  3. Verify that the Google Account that is listed is the one linked to Google Home.  To switch accounts, click the triangle to the right of the account name and email address.
  4. Tap More settings.
  5. Under "Devices," tap the Google Home you want to adjust and then Device name and then .
  6. Type a new name and then OK
Device address

This address is the location of the Google Home device. Important: This may or may not be the same address as your work and home locations. When asking for local places, weather, and time information, this location
will be used as the default location unless you specify another place/weather/time. Ex. "What's the weather in <Chicago>".

To change the device address of Google Home:

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. In the top left corner of the Home screen, tap Menu .
  3. Verify that the Google Account that is listed is the one linked to Google Home.  To switch accounts, click the triangle to the right of the account name and email address.
  4. Tap More settings.
  5. Under "Devices," tap the Google Home you want to adjust and then Device address.
  6. Type in the address where your Google Home device is located. You can edit or delete this address at any time.
Assistant language

This allows you to change the language of your Assistant. Note: This will change the language on all of your Google Home devices.

To manage this setting:

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. In the top left corner of the Home screen, tap Menu .
  3. Verify that the Google Account that is listed is the one linked to Google Home.  To switch accounts, click the triangle to the right of the account name.
  4. Tap More settings.
  5. Under "Devices," tap the Google Home you want to adjust.
  6. Under Assistant Language, tap the arrow
  7.  Tap the radio button next to the language you prefer  Yes.
Personal results

This allows the Google Home device to read out your private info like your shopping list, calendar and flights, and help you with tasks like payments. Note: It must be ON to hear any personalized information. See the feature list below.

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. In the top left corner of the Home screen, tap Menu .
  3. Verify that the Google Account that is listed is the one linked to Google Home.  To switch accounts, click the triangle to the right of the account name and email address.
  4. Tap More settings.
  5. Under "Devices," tap the Google Home you want to adjust.
  6. Under "Personal results," slide the slider to the right .

Important: You can't turn on only a subset of Personal results, e.g. turn on calendars but not payments. So if you turn off Personal results because you don't want your Assistant to help with payments, it won’t be able to help with other personal information like flights, shopping lists, calendars, etc.

Features that require Personal results to be ON to hear personalized information include:

YouTube Restricted Mode

This allows you to hide songs and videos that may contain inappropriate content.

To manage this setting:
