Get traffic & commute information

With Google Home, you can always get to work on time by hearing information about your commute, traffic conditions, and your estimated time of arrival.

Step 1: Manage your commute settings

You must set the following locations in the Google Home app to hear relevant commute information:

  1. Set work and home location.
  2. Set Google Home device address

Step 2: Ask for traffic information

Here are some ways to talk with your Google Assistant on Google Home about commute conditions, traffic, estimated time of arrival, and more.

To do this: Say "Ok Google" or "Hey Google," then... What Google Home will say or do:
Hear commute conditions "How long is my commute?"

Estimated time to drive to home/work from your Google Home device address

Traffic conditions for the fastest route

Specify method "How long will it take to walk/train/bus/bike to the library?"

Estimated time to walk/train/bus/bike to a destination from your Google Home device address

Traffic conditions if you’re driving

Specify destination "How long will it take to get to Costco?"

Estimated time to drive to a destination from your Google Home device address

Traffic conditions for the fastest route

Specify source and destination "How long will it take to get from work to San Francisco International airport?"

Estimated time to destination

Traffic conditions for the fastest route

Important: You must be specific with your query to hear the correct traffic information.

  • “Hey Google, how long is my commute?” - Google Home will share traffic from your Google Home device address  to your home or work address.

Troubleshooting

  1. Make sure you've set your home and work locations either in the Google Home app or in Google Maps. Note: This can’t be done using your voice.
