Change your Google Camera app settings on your Pixel phone

You can change your photo and video settings. For example, you can turn location stamps on or off, save storage space, and control dirty lens warnings.

Turn off shutter sound

1. Open your Google Camera app . Learn how.
2. At the top, tap the Down arrow   Settings .
3. Turn off Camera sounds.

Turn off photo & video location stamps

1. Open your Google Camera app . Learn how.
2. At the top, tap the Down arrow   Settings .
3. Turn off Save location.

Tip: To view a timestamp for any photo, in the bottom right corner, tap the photo  More . If you leave location stamps on, you’ll also get the photo location.

Reduce resolution to save storage space

Photos

1. Open your Google Camera app . Learn how.
2. At the top, tap the Down arrow   Settings .
3. Choose your camera photo resolution.

Videos

1. Open your Google Camera app . Learn how.
2. To switch to Video mode, tap Video.
3. At the top, tap the Down arrow .
4. Next to “Resolution,” select Full HD.

Check photo and video storage space

To find out how many photos and minutes of video you can take on your Pixel phone:

1. Open your Google Camera app . Learn how.
2. At the top, tap the Down arrow  .
3. Tap Settings   Device Storage . Your remaining storage is detailed at the top of your screen.
4. To optimize storage space, you can turn on Storage Saver.

Adjust your camera lens

Take a panorama

1. Open your Google Camera app . Learn how.
2. Tap More  Panorama .
3. Tap Capture .
4. Hold the lens steady while you move the camera horizontally. Be sure to keep the white frame aligned.
   • To take a vertical panorama, rotate your phone vertically. Then, move your camera up or down.
5. When you're done capturing your image, tap Stop recording .

Tip: To cancel a photo, tap Close .

Take a 360-degree Photo Sphere

1. Open your Google Camera app . Learn how.
2. Tap More  Photo Sphere  the Down arrow .
   • To take a 360-degree photo, tap Panorama photo sphere .
   • To take a horizontal photo, tap Horizontal .
   • To take a vertical photo, tap Vertical .
   • To take a photo with a wide arc, tap Wide-angle .
   • To take a fisheye photo, tap Fisheye .
3. Hold the target circle over a white dot. The dot will turn blue, then disappear.
4. Move the camera to the next white dot as you hold the lens steady.
5. Repeat until there are no more white dots, or tap Done .

Take a close up (Pixel 7 Pro only)

Use Macro Focus to capture photos of small details like flower petals or dew drops.

1. Open your phone's Camera app .
2. Move your phone close to your subject.
3. Tap the screen to place the focus.
4. When the Macro flower  appears, take your photo.

Tips:

• Don’t shade your subject or block your light source.
• To force Macro focus on or turn it off, tap  .
• To focus on a specific part of your subject, tap the screen where you want to focus.
• Macro focus also works with Auto Night Sight.

Take a photo from far away

Capture photos of subjects from a distance. With the next generation of zoom lenses, you can zoom up to: 

• 8x with your Pixel 7 phone
• 30x with your Pixel 7 Pro phone 

Tip: Zoom stabilization turns on automatically on Pixel 7 Pro phones zoomed to 15x.

1. Open your Google Camera app .
   • For closer subjects, tap the 2x or 5x zoom button above the shutter.
   • For far away subjects, pinch the screen or swipe across the zoom buttons to show the zoom slider.
2. Tap your subject to focus.
3. Take your photo.

Tip: Bright light is best for photos captured with zoom and stabilization.

Turn off dirty lens warnings

You may get a warning message if your camera senses that the lens is dirty. To turn off these messages:

1. Open your Google Camera app . Learn how.
2. At the top, tap the Down arrow .
3. Tap Settings   Advanced .
4. Turn off Show dirty lens warning.

Change what your volume buttons do

1. Open your Google Camera app . Learn how.
2. At the top, tap the Down arrow . 
3. Tap Settings   Gestures  Volume key action.
4. Select an option.

Turn on flash

To turn on flash for brighter photos:

1. Open the Google Camera app . Learn how. 
2. To turn on flash, tap the Down arrow   Flash .

Turn on audio zoom (Pixel 4 and 5)

When you record videos, turn on audio zoom for better sound.

1. Open the Google Camera app . Learn how to open your Google Camera app on your Pixel phone.
2. To switch to video mode, tap Video.
3. To turn on audio zoom, tap the Down arrow   Settings .
4. Turn on Audio zoom.
