Edit your Local campaign

Once you have set up a Local campaign, you can advertise your shop across many of Google's networks. You may also want to make changes to improve your campaign's performance or to adapt to shifts in your business needs.

This article goes over how to review and edit your campaign’s settings.

Access your campaign

Steps to access your campaign

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads account.
  2. Click Campaigns in the page menu to see a full list of your Google Ads campaigns.
  3. In this list, click the name of your Local campaign to see its overview.

Change campaign settings

Steps to change campaign settings

  1. Click Settings to view and edit the operating parameters that you set up when you created your campaign.
  2. Click any of the categories to expand their cards.
  3. Select your options or fill in your new values. These settings include:
    • Campaign Name
    • Status
    • Languages
    • Bidding strategy
    • Budget
    • Start and end dates
    • Locations
  4. Click Save at the bottom right of the card to apply the new settings.
  5. Repeat steps 2-4 for every setting you want to change.

Connect to local product feed

Steps to connect to local product feed

You can promote the products and services available at each location by connecting to a local product feed. This option will create local catalogue ads based on your feed data.

Before you begin, you’ll have to first create a local product feed in the “business data” section.

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads account.
  2. Go to Campaigns, and open an existing Local campaign.
  3. Click Settings.
  4. Scroll to the bottom of your settings, and expand Show more settings.
  5. Expand “Product feed”. Check the box for Use a product feed for this campaign.
  6. Select your feed source
    • Google Ads (local product feed): Select a local product feed that you’ve created in “business data.”

Edit assets

Steps to edit assets

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads account.
  2. Click Local campaigns from the navigation panel.
  3. Click Ad groups from the page menu.
  4. Click the name of the ad group that you want to edit assets for.
  5. You can review your assets at a glance on the "Ad assets" page.
    • You can also click preview tabs to see how your ad looks in Google Maps, Display, Search or on YouTube.
  6. To edit, click the pencil icon Edit above the asset list.
  7. On the "Ad assets" page, you can edit, replace or remove any of the assets, including:
    • Final URL
    • Display path
    • Headline
    • Description
    • Call-to-action
    • Images
    • Videos
  8. Click Save and continue.

Edit audiences

Steps to edit audiences

It is recommended to target your Local campaign to a broad audience; Local campaigns will automatically optimise for offline conversions.  Specific audiences can be added for observation (recommended) or as filters.
  1. Click Audiences in the page menu to view the audience lists for your campaign.
  2. Click the pencil icon Edit or on Audiences at the bottom.
  3. Click the pencil icon Edit to browse your ad groups.
  4. Select an ad group and then select one of the ad group's audiences.
  5. Click Save.

Exclude geographic locations

Steps to exclude locations

Geographic radius targeting will be inferred based on the physical business locations specified for your campaign. If needed, you can exclude certain geographic locations from your campaign. 

  1. From the navigation panel, click the name of the campaign or campaign type that you are excluding locations from.
  2. From the page menu, click Locations to view and edit the campaign's locations.
  3. Click the Excluded tab to view your campaign's excluded locations.
  4. Click the pencil icon Edit or Edit locations to make location exclusions.
  5. Fill in the 'Enter locations to exclude' field and select from the list that populates as you type.
    • To exclude multiple locations, click Add locations in bulk. You can place one city, postcode, country, etc. per line and click Search to find the specific location. You can then click Exclude for each location to exclude, or Exclude all to exclude every result from your search.
  6. Click Save to confirm your location and add it to the list.

Edit a location group within a campaign

Steps to edit location group

  1. From the navigation panel, click the name of the campaign or campaign type that you are editing a location group for.
  2. From the page menu, click Settings.
  3. Click the Location type card to expand it.
  4. Click the drop-down menu next to 'Choose locations for this campaign' and select Use location groups.
  5. Select Use location groups or Create a location group to set the location groups for the campaign.
    • For “Use location groups”:
      1. Use the search bar to search for the groups that you want to apply.
      2. Select the groups to apply by ticking the boxes next to the names of the groups.
      3. Click Save.
    • For “Create a location group”:
      1. Input a name for the group in the 'Location group name' box.
      2. Use the search bar to search locations for your new group.
      3. Select the locations for the group by ticking the boxes next to the locations.
      4. Click Save to create your group and apply it to your campaign.
