Whether you use only a final URL to define your landing page or a final URL with a tracking template or custom parameters, it’s important to ensure that your ad is leading your potential customers to the right part of your website.
This article explains how to test your landing page and tracking URL to identify and fix these kinds of issues.
How it works
When you test your landing page, you’ll receive detailed test results and one of the following messages.
| Message | Campaign type | What it means |
| Landing page has additional parameters | All | The landing page has more parameters than the final URL. |
| Landing page has URL mismatch | All | The landing page domain doesn’t match the final URL domain. This can happen due to redirects, inconsistent casing (uppercase/lowercase) or using short URLs that expand to a different domain. |
| No eligible ads found | All | There were no ads in the ad group that could be tested. The ads that can be tested are text ads, image ads and ads from the Ad gallery. These ads must also use upgraded URLs. |
| Final URL mismatch | All |
The landing page and final URL don't share the same domain. The URLs in the redirect chain don't begin with your final URL, or your redirects after your final URL don't stay on the same domain. This causes 'Destination mismatch' ad disapprovals. How to fix:
|
| Page found | All | A landing page was found. |
| Page not found | All |
The landing page wasn't found (for example, 404 error). Check your tracking template, custom parameter(s) or final URL. This can also be caused by Google AdsBot being blocked from crawling the page. Consider the following if you encounter page not found issues:
|
| HTTP redirect in tracking chain | All | The tracking chain has an HTTP URL. |
| JavaScript redirect in tracking chain | All | The tracking chain has a JavaScript redirect. |
| Tracking chain terminates | All | The tracking chain ends before reaching google.com/asnc. |
| Unreachable | All | The landing page couldn’t be reached (for example, because it timed out). Please try again. |
| Unknown/Tool failure | All | There was an error while testing your landing page. Please try again later. |
| Website domain empty | Dynamic Search Ads | The 'Website domain' field (found in 'Campaign settings') is empty. |
