Find and edit your experiments

Once your experiment starts running, you’ll want to check how it’s performing in comparison to the original campaign. This will help you decide whether to end your experiment, convert it to a new campaign or apply it to the original campaign.

This article explains how to find and edit your experiments.

Instructions

Note: The instructions below are part of the new design for the Google Ads user experience. To use the previous design, click the 'Appearance' icon and select Use previous design. If you're using the previous version of Google Ads, review the Quick reference map or use the search bar in the top navigation panel of Google Ads to find the page you’re searching for.

Find your campaign experiments in the Campaign page

Note: If you prefer to use the navigation panel on the left, click Change view in the top left of your Google Ads account.
  1. In your Google Ads account, click the Campaigns icon Campaigns Icon.
  2. Click the Campaigns drop-down in the section menu.
  3. Click Experiments.
  4. Experiments that are listed with campaigns are shown with a flask icon Experiment. By pointing your cursor over the 'Status' column for the experiment, you can learn whether the experiment is running, along with its start and end dates and budget split with the campaign it was created from.

Find your experiments in the Experiments page (formerly Drafts and Experiments)

  1. In your Google Ads account, click the Campaigns icon Campaigns Icon.
  2. Click the Campaigns drop-down in the section menu.
  3. Click Experiments. In the 'All Experiments' table, you’ll see the experiment name, experiment type, status and start and end dates.
    • If you’re coming from a specific campaign page, you’ll see a table that shows just the experiments for that campaign.
    • If you’re coming from the 'All experiments' page, you’ll see a table that shows all experiments next to the campaigns they’re created from. To change this view, click the segments icon in the upper-right corner, and under 'Group rows by', select:
      • None to see your experiments listed in alphabetical order by name.
      • Campaign to see your experiments grouped by campaigns.
    • If you want to use the filter to find an experiment, click the filter icon Filter in the top right-hand corner, then choose a filter from the drop-down.

Make changes for experiments

After creating your experiments, you can make the following changes for experiments as necessary.

Keep in mind that making changes such as adding, removing ads or ad groups or targeting can prevent the changes that you made earlier in an experiment from being applied.

  1. In your Google Ads account, click the Campaigns icon Campaigns Icon.
  2. Click the Campaigns drop-down in the section menu.
  3. Click ExperimentsView details
  4. Find and click the name of the experiment. You’ll be able to view the following details for the experiment:

    • Name: The name you’ve chosen for your experiment. To open and make changes to your experiment, click the experiment’s name.
    • Original campaign (visible if None selected for 'Row grouping'): The campaign that this experiment was created from.
    • Status: The current state of your experiment. Learn more about what each status means.
    • Split: The percentage of traffic (and budget) that this experiment shares with its original campaign.
    • Experiment split option: The way you’d like to split your experiment. Either cookie-based split or search-based split. Your experiment will be set by default to the search-based split if you don’t select cookie-split.
    • Start date: The start date for this experiment.
    • End date: The end date for this experiment. If you haven’t set an end date, this column will be empty.
    Edit details
Find the name of the experiment. In the table, click the pencil icon Edit next to the following fields:
    • Experiment: The name you've chosen for your experiment.
    • Start date: The start date for this experiment.
    • End date: The end date for this experiment. If you haven’t set an end date, this column will be empty.
Note: You can't edit the start date of an experiment once the campaign has started running, and its status is set to 'In Progress'.
    End an experiment
Find and click the name of the experiment. Click End now on the upper-right of the page. Select End.
    Remove an experiment
Select the tick boxes next to the experiments you’d like to remove, then click Remove above the table.
