About campaign settings for Performance Max campaigns with pay-per-lead goals

To update your campaign settings for your pay-per-lead campaign, navigate to the "Settings" tab within the Campaigns menu in Google Ads and select your campaign. Review and update your settings as needed, keeping the following platform behaviors in mind:

  • Campaign name: Edit the name of your campaign for easier tracking and organization within your account.
  • Campaign status: Set your campaign to Enabled to serve ads, or Paused to temporarily stop your ads and stop receiving leads.
  • Conversion goals: Conversion goals: Phone call leads are required to keep your ads serving, but you can choose to opt in or out of receiving messages or booking leads at any time.
  • Campaign budget: Select Budget to edit your average daily budget. Learn more about budgets in Google Ads.
  • Bidding strategy: Defaults to MaximizeConversions, an automated bidding strategy that uses Google AI to set bids dynamically, helping you get the most leads possible within your daily budget. Learn more about Maximize Conversions bidding.
  • Ad schedule: Specify the days and hours your ads can run. You can choose to run your ads all the time, configure a custom schedule, or directly sync your ad schedule to your Google Business Profile's business hours.
  • Locations: Edit your service area by adding or removing cities, counties, or ZIP codes based on your actual travel and coverage limits. Note: You can’t target geographic locations outside of the country where your business is located.
  • Business category: Sourced directly from your Google Business Profile. Campaign settings support both single and multiple business category configurations (also known as industries). If you want to add more business categories to this list, you must add them to your Google Business Profile first. You can also opt out of any industry at any time.
  • Service types: Review and select the specific service tasks (such as "Repair pipe," "Repair faucet," or "Repair water heater") you want to target. Your ad will only appear in local searches for the business category and the specific services you select here. You must have at least one service type selected to keep your business category active.
  • Direct business search: Turn this feature on to show your ad when customers search specifically for your brand or business name, while screening out returning customers to protect your budget.
  • Contact information: Edit where your call and message leads are routed. This is where you can specify how you want to receive message leads (via email, text message, or both) and update the phone number for receiving these leads.
