Create and manage more than one campaign

Did you know that a Google Ads account can contain as many as 10,000 campaigns (including active and paused campaigns) per account, 20,000 ad groups per campaign, and 50 text ads per ad group? That's a lot to manage! Fortunately, you can manage your campaigns and ads from the “Campaigns” and “Ads & extensions” pages. You can even change settings for multiple campaigns at once and make new ads based on existing ads.

 

What you can do on the "Campaigns" and "Ads & extensions" pages

The “Campaigns” page and the “Ads & extensions” page are two places where you’ll spend a lot of your time. You can see these pages by clicking Campaigns or Ads & extensions in the page menu on the left. 

Here are just a few of the things you can do in the “Campaigns” and “Ads & extensions” pages:

  • See everything, from costs to clicks, at a glance.
  • Sort campaigns and ads based on budget, clicks, and other statistics.
  • Make direct changes to your campaigns and ads.
  • Drill deeper into the settings or keywords associated with a campaign or ad. 
  • Make changes to multiple campaigns or ads.

Copy campaigns

If you’ve already set up a successful campaign, you can use it as a template when setting up your next campaign. To do this, copy the campaign, and then edit one of the copies. That way, you start with the same structure and settings for your ad groups, ads, and keywords.

How to duplicate a campaign

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads account.
  2. Click Campaigns in the page menu on the left.
  3. Check the box next to the campaign you want to duplicate.
  4. Click the Edit drop-down menu, and then click Copy (or Control+C for PCs, Command+C for Macs).
  5. Click the Edit menu again, and then click Paste (or Control+V for PCs, Command+V for Macs).
    • Optional: Check the box next to “Pause new campaign after pasting” to create new campaigns that are paused. Otherwise, any copies of campaigns that were active when copied will be active when pasted.
  6. Click Paste.

You’ll now have a new campaign that will have the same structure and settings as your original campaign. However, it won't have any campaign, keyword, or ad history. If you want to keep both campaigns active, keep your original campaign running (so that it continues with the history it’s already generated), and edit the new campaign.

Change settings for multiple campaigns at once

On the Campaigns tab, you can edit individual campaigns or change the settings for multiple campaigns at once. Here are the settings that can be changed for multiple campaigns at once:

  • Status
  • Location targeting
  • Budget
  • Campaign end date
  • Ad rotation
  • Delivery method
  • Language
  • Ad schedule

How to change settings for multiple campaigns at one time

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads account.
  2. From the "All campaigns" page, click Settings in the page menu on the left.
  3. Select the checkboxes next to the campaign (or campaigns) whose settings you want to change.
    • Tip: Create a filter to show just the campaigns with the settings you want to change. Just click the Filter drop-down menu, choose the settings you want to filter by, then click Apply. Then you can select all of the filtered campaigns at once by checking the box in the top left corner of the table.
  4. Click the Edit drop-down menu at the top of the table.
  5. Choose the setting you want to change for the campaigns you selected. 
  6. Specify the changes to the setting you selected. Click Preview to review the changes you’re about to make. When you’re ready to apply your changes, click Apply.

How to change the campaign status of multiple campaigns at once

  1. On the "All campaigns" page, select the checkboxes next to the campaigns you want to edit.
  2. Click the Edit drop-down menu at the top of the table.
  3. Select the new status.

Copy ads

How to copy ads to another ad group

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads account.
  2. From the "All campaigns" page, click Ads & extensions in the page menu on the left.
  3. Check the boxes next to the ads you’d like to copy, and then, from the Edit drop-down menu, choose Copy (or Control+C for PCs, Command+C for Macs).
  4. Click Ad groups in the page menu on the left. 
  5. Click on the ad group where you want to paste the copied ads.
  6. From the Edit drop-down menu, choose Paste (or Control+V for PCs, Command+V for Macs).
    1. In the dialog box, check the box next to “Pause new ads after pasting” to create new ads that are paused. Otherwise, any copies of ads that were active when copied will be active when pasted.
    2. One or more of the ads you’ve just copied may already be part of the ad group you selected. Check the box next to “If ad already exists in destination, create duplicate” if you want to duplicate these ads. 
  7. Click Paste.

Sort your campaigns and ads

To sort your campaigns or ads, simply click the heading of the column you want to sort. Keep in mind that different columns can have different sorting rules. For example, when you click the Campaigns column to sort your campaigns, it'll sort in alphabetical or reverse-alphabetical order. When you click on columns that contain numerical statistics, it'll sort by the largest or smallest numbers.
