Turn on text customisation in Performance Max
You can turn text customisation on or off from your Google Ads account. Follow the steps below to update your Performance Max campaign settings.
- Go to Campaigns within the Campaigns menu
.
- Find the row with the Performance Max campaign that you'd like to edit, then select the gear icon
to open 'Settings'.
- Select Asset optimisation and then, select Text customisation to expand the sections.
- Select or unselect the boxes for Generation and Final URL.
- Select Save.
- Note: You can’t select 'Final URL' without selecting 'Text assets'.
Remove Google customised text assets
You can view and remove Google customised text assets from your Performance Max campaign by following the steps below.
View Google customised text assets in an asset group
- Go to Campaigns within the Campaigns menu
.
- On the 'Campaigns' page, select the Performance Max campaign that you’d like to view.
- You will then be redirected to the overview page of the Performance Max campaign. On the left panel under 'Campaigns', click Asset groups.
- On the asset group card, you’d like to view the asset report of, select View details.
- You will be presented with all the assets currently serving in your asset group.
Remove Google customised text assets in a Performance Max asset group
Just like other assets, you can remove Google customised text assets. Follow the instructions above to get to the asset page. You can view Google customised text assets under the 'Added by' column labelled as 'Google AI'. To remove any assets, follow the steps below:
- Select the drop-down arrow next to the status icon.
- A drop-down menu appears, select 'Remove'.
- You'll be asked to acknowledge that the asset will be permanently removed.
- Select Confirm.
Removing expanded final URL assets
In addition to standard text customisation, you can also view and remove specific assets that were generated via final URL expansion. To do this, navigate to the 'Expanded final URL assets' tab in your asset reporting. From here, you can select and remove individual assets.
Bear in mind that final URL expansion asset removals apply to the entire campaign. This means that when you remove an asset from this tab, it will no longer serve across any ad groups or final URLs within that campaign.
Disable text customisation in a campaign
Follow these steps to opt out of text customisation:
- Go to Campaigns within the Campaigns menu
.
- Click the Settings tab on top, then select the campaigns that you want to edit.
- Click Edit, then select Change text customisation settings and turn it Off.
- When you disable 'Text customisation', assets will be reported as 'Removed' and no longer serve.
- If you don't upload video creatives, Performance Max will automatically create video assets using the text and images in your asset groups.
