About dynamic image assets

Dynamic image assets are account-level automated assets that allow Google to curate relevant visuals from your ad’s landing page to complement your existing search ads. They can help you reach your performance goals with compelling visuals of products or services that enhance the message of your text ads.

You can opt in to dynamic image assets at the account level.

Note: You should use image assets and dynamic image assets together. Image assets that you provide directly and dynamic image assets will both be eligible to serve. Make sure that you set up your image assets at a level that makes the most sense for you.

Benefits

Dynamic image assets can boost your advertising impact and value by showing visually relevant information that's difficult to convey with text only. By showing a preview of what a user can expect on the landing page, it can inspire users to click through. Other benefits include:

  • Driving measurable performance for your marketing objective. Increase CTR when dynamic image assets show with Search text ads by visually differentiating your Search ads from competitors.
  • Ease of use and control. You can opt in to dynamic image assets at the account level and you’ll have full control to remove any dynamic image assets that serve.

How they work

After you've opted in to dynamic image assets, Google Ads will identify and extract images from your landing page. Our system selects images from your landing page that are most relevant to the query based on the ad’s landing page. The images that are selected from your final URL go through a set of automated and manual quality checks before being selected to serve. You may not receive dynamic image assets if we can’t find a suitable image from your landing page that meets our quality standards or an image doesn’t exist.

Clicking on a dynamic image asset will take users to the same landing page as the headline in your ad.

When someone clicks on your dynamic image asset, you’re charged on a Cost-per-click (CPC) basis similar to search text ads. The images in your dynamic image asset are clickable and are charged at the same cost per click as a click to a text headline.

Dynamic image assets only show when they’re expected to boost your ad’s performance. You can, however, opt out of having them show with your ad.

Image format combinations

Image assets can appear in the following formats and combinations in desktop and mobile.

Mobile
  • 3 square images side-by-side
  • One square image
Desktop
  • One square image
  • One landscape image
  • 5 square images side-by-side
  • 2 landscape images and one square image side-by-side
  • One landscape image and 3 square images side-by-side
Note: You can't control which format will serve as the determination is auction-dependent. The best thing you can do is ensure that you’ve uploaded sufficient image assets and are opted in to dynamic image assets. You’re recommended to have 4 unique images at the ad group or campaign level with at least one square (1 x 1) and one landscape (1.91 x 1) image to maximise serving eligibility.
Note: Dynamic image assets go through robust approval processes. Images extracted as dynamic image assets are reviewed for relevance by reviewing a combination of targeting including keywords, queries, ad targeting and landing page (Final URL). Dynamic image assets must also meet the image assets format requirements.
