If Google Maps says that it can’t determine your precise location, then, you're not in the Google Maps app. You’re using Google Maps through your device’s internet browser, like Chrome or Safari. This message displays if:
- Your mobile internet browser doesn't have permission to find your location.
- Your location is turned off on your phone or tablet.
Switch to the Google Maps app
To use features like traffic alerts and turn-by-turn navigation, and to help Maps find your location:
- On your Android phone or tablet, download the latest version of the app.
- Open the Google Maps app

- Tap My location
.
- If there's a message asking you to turn on your location, tap OK.
.Optional: Keep using Google Maps in your browser
You can decide to use Google Maps on your phone or tablet without installing the app. For best results, share your location with the Internet browser.
Step 1: Turn on your location- On your Android phone or tablet, go to the Settings app

- Under "Personal," tap Location. (Depending upon your device, this may be found elsewhere.)
- Turn on Location.
- Open the Google Maps in your mobile browser and reload the page.
- Tap My location
.If there isn’t an error after you open Google Maps and there’s a message about your device’s location, tap Allow.
If you still get an error when you open Google Maps, move on to step 2 below.
Chrome
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Chrome app

- In the top right, tap More
.
- Tap Settings.
- Under “Advanced,” tap Site settings.
- Tap Location and turn on Location.
- If you find "Location access is turned off for this device," tap the blue words
on the next screen, turn on location access.
- If you find "blocked" under "Location," tap Blocked
- If you find "Location access is turned off for this device," tap the blue words
- Open Google Maps in your mobile browser and reload the page.
