Navigate the map with gestures

In Google Maps, you can move, rotate, zoom, and tilt the map with the following gestures on your touchscreen device.

To move the map, drag the map with your finger.

To rotate the maps, touch an area with two fingers and drag both fingers in a circular motion.

Note: To return to North-up view, touch the compass icon  that appears in the top-right corner. This icon will appear only if you are not oriented North-up.

To zoom in, double-tap a location with one finger or touch an area with two fingers at once and spread them apart.

Tip: To zoom in with one hand, double-tap a location, hold the second tap, and drag your finger down, pulling the map towards you.

Note: If you're using an older Android device or older version of Google Maps, drag your finger up and push the map away from you.

To zoom out, touch once with two fingers or touch an area with two fingers and pinch them together.

Tip: To zoom out with one hand, double-tap a location, hold the second tap, and drag your finger up, pushing the map away from you.

Note: If you're using an older Android device or older version of Google Maps, drag your finger down and pull the map toward you.

To tilt the map, touch an area with two fingers and drag both fingers upwards. Drag from top to bottom to return to an overhead view.

Note: If you're using an older Android device or older version of Google Maps app, drag your fingers from top to bottom.
