Access Navigation (Beta) features

Quickly access handy features, like views and audio settings, right from the Navigation menu.

Listen to voice navigation through your phone’s speaker

Use your phone’s speaker instead of Bluetooth to hear voice navigation. Other audio, like phone calls and music, will still play through Bluetooth.

  1. In navigation, touch the menu button .
  2. Touch Settings .
  3. Uncheck Play voice over Bluetooth. Voice navigation will now play through your phone’s speaker.

Show traffic

See traffic conditions on the map.

  1. In Navigation, touch the menu .
  2. Select Traffic . (The traffic layer is shown by default.)

Mute voice guidance

You can silence voice navigation by touching the mute voice guidance button.

  1. In Navigation, touch the menu .
  2. Select Mute .

To turn voice guidance back on, touch Mute again.

You can also silence voice navigation by touching the volume controls on your device. 

See satellite imagery

You can choose to switch between regular map view and satellite view while navigating.

  1. In Navigation, touch the menu .
  2. Select Show satellite  (or select Hide satellite to go back to the regular map).

Adjust the audio level

Set the navigation guidance audio level while navigating.

  1. In navigation, touch the menu button .
  2. Select the settings icon .
  3. Touch Voice level.
  4. Select your preferred audio level: Louder, Normal, or Softer.

Note: This is only available for some phones on Android 4.4 KitKat and above.

See the map in 2D mode

Track your route on the map with North at the top while navigating.

  1. In navigation, touch the menu button .
  2. In the upper right, touch the compass .
