You can search for specific photos, videos, memories and more from your gallery apps, like Google Photos or Samsung Gallery, in Gemini Apps.
Important: You can still upload photos to your prompts, even if your gallery app isn't connected. Learn how to upload photos in Gemini Apps.
Tip: If you're in the US, you also get personalised Gemini experiences based on your data from Google Photos when you connect the Google Photos app. Learn more about personalisation based on Connected Apps.
What you need
To connect gallery apps to Gemini Apps, you need to:
- Sign in to the Gemini app with a personal Google Account. The supported gallery apps aren't available if you sign in to a work, school or supervised Google Account. Learn how to sign in to Gemini Apps.
- Have Keep activity on. Gemini can’t connect to gallery apps when this setting is off.
Additionally, to connect Google Photos to Gemini Apps, you need to:
- Be 18 or over and in the US. This feature isn’t available in all regions.
- Have the Google Photos app.
- Have these Google Photos settings turned on:
- Face Groups and select which face is yours. Learn how to turn on Face Groups and how to select your face group.
- Estimate missing locations. Learn how to turn on Estimate missing locations.
Connect your gallery to Gemini Apps
Connect Google Photos- On your phone or tablet, open the Gemini mobile app
or go to gemini.google.com.
- Make sure that you're signed in to the same account that you use with Google Photos.
- Ask the Gemini app to find a photo in your Google Photos library.

Tips:
- You can disconnect these apps at any time in your Connected Apps settings. Learn how to manage Connected Apps in Gemini.
- You can also say 'Hey Google' to ask Gemini to use a connected app. If 'Hey Google' doesn't work, check if 'Hey Google' and Voice Match are set up.
Ask for your photos and videos or about them
You can ask Gemini to find photos and videos from your connected gallery apps. When you do this, the search results are provided directly by your gallery app, not Gemini.
Find photos, videos and albumsYou can find photos, videos and albums based on:
- Your face groups or relationships that you've saved in Google Photos
- Your tags in Samsung Gallery
- Location or the date the photo or video was taken
- Description of what's in the photo or video
- Your current chat with Gemini

- Show my photos from my most recent trip

You can ask for important details found in your photos and videos such as:
- @Google Photos what themes have we had for Lena’s birthday parties?
- @Google Photos what did we eat at the hotel in Stanly?
- @Google Photos what were some of the things we ate in Mexico City?
- @Google Photos what are the top 10 things we saw on our last trip?
- @Google Photos what’s my driver’s license number?
Do more with your photos and videos
- Tap a photo to open it in your gallery app.
- Tap a video to open and play it in your gallery app or default player.
- Tap an album from Google Photos to open it in the app.
- Drag and drop a photo from the Gemini on-screen overlay into another app.
- This feature is available on Android phones and tablets only. You can only drag and drop one image.
Important: If Gemini's response includes photos or videos retrieved from Google Photos, the share or export features only work with the text portion of the response, and photos and videos aren't included.
Important: For now, you cannot share an actual video. You can only share the preview image of a video.
Share and copy your photosTo share a single photo:
- Touch and hold the photo that you want to share.
- Tap Share.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
To share multiple photos:
- Touch and hold a photo that you want to share.
- Tap Select.
- Select the photos that you want to share.
- Above the photos, tap Share

- Follow the on-screen instructions.
To copy a photo to your clipboard:
- Touch and hold the photo that you want to copy.
- Tap Copy.
- Touch and hold a photo that you want to add to your prompt.
- Tap Select.
- Select any other photos that you want to add.
- Tap Add selected images

- Tell Gemini what you want it to do, like edit the photo or send it as a message in Google Messages.
Examples:
- @Samsung Gallery Find the best photos from my trip to Seoul last May.
Send these all to Mum.
- @Samsung Gallery Show me the pictures from last summer holiday in Paris.
Send them to Devin and mention the 2025 Paris holiday.
What Gemini Apps can't do
- Use the editing features within the gallery apps.
- Add labels, like names or locations, to your photos in your gallery apps.
- Create new albums or edit existing ones in your gallery apps.
