You can conduct in-depth and real-time research on almost any subject with Deep Research in Gemini Apps. By default, Gemini includes Google Search as a source for your research. You can change or add other sources, like your personal Gmail or Drive, for your research. Learn more about Deep Research.
What you need
To use Deep Research, you need to:
- Be 18 or over.
- Be signed in to the Gemini app. Learn how to sign in to Gemini Apps.
About Deep Research models & limits
Deep Research modelsIn Gemini Apps, there are limits for:
- Daily research requests
- Number of research requests you can run at the same time
If you’re close to your limit, Gemini Apps notifies you how many research requests are left for the day.
Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra users get higher limits for how many research reports they can create. If you would like to create more research reports, learn more about limits and how to upgrade.
Start a Deep Research report
In the Gemini mobile appImportant: We’re gradually releasing the option to choose sources for Deep Research in the Gemini mobile app. It might not be available to you yet.
- On your phone or tablet, open the Gemini mobile app

- In the text box, tap Tools

- Optional: To upload files or an image with your prompt, tap Add files
.
- Optional: To choose the sources for your research, tap Search
and select the sources you want to include, like Gmail or Drive.
- Other Google services, like Gmail and Drive, are only available if the Google Workspace app is connected to Gemini Apps. Learn how to connect Google Workspace to Gemini Apps.
- Google Search is included as a source by default. To limit your research to other selected sources, deselect Google Search.
- In the text box, enter a question or prompt that explains what you want to research.
- Tap Submit

- Gemini will create a research plan for your topic.
- To update the research plan before you create a report, tap Edit plan.
- Tap Start research.
- When your report is ready, tap Open.
- On your phone or tablet, go to gemini.google.com.
- In the text box, tap Tools

Tips:
- It usually takes about 5-10 minutes to generate the report since Gemini analyzes many sources. For more complex reports, it may take longer.
- While you wait for the report, you can leave the chat. When it’s ready, Gemini will notify you:
- In the web app: Next to the chat thread with your completed report.
- In the mobile app: As a notification on your device. The notification may appear when your device is locked depending on your settings.
You can turn notifications for Deep Research on or off in your device’s app notification settings.

- At the top, tap Menu

- Under “Recent,” find your research chat.
Listen to your research report
- On your phone or tablet, open the Gemini mobile app

- Under “Recent,” tap the chat with your research report.
- On the report in the chat, tap Open.
- At the top, tap More

Visualize your research report
- On your phone or tablet, go to gemini.google.com.
- If your chats are hidden, at the top, tap Menu

- Under “Recent,” tap the chat with your research report.
- On the report in the chat, tap Open.
- At the top of the report, tap Create.
- To create a custom visualization based on the report, enter the description as a prompt in the text box.
Share, export, or copy your research report
- On your phone or tablet, go to gemini.google.com.
- If your chats are hidden, at the top, tap Menu

- Under “Recent,” tap the chat with your research report.
- On the report in the chat, tap Open.
- At the top of the report, tap Export
.
- Select how you want to share or export the report.
- To share the report, tap Share

- To export the report, tap Export to Docs

- To copy the report text, tap Copy Contents

- To share the report, tap Share
