Upload & analyze files in the Gemini web app

You can upload documents and spreadsheets to the Gemini web app to get answers, summaries, and insights about your content.

Availability

• The file upload and analysis feature is only available in Gemini Advanced. Learn how to upgrade to Gemini Advanced.
• This feature is available in all languages available for Gemini Advanced. 

• For now, this feature is not available:

  • In India. It’s available in all other countries and territories where Gemini Advanced is available.

  • For work or school users with a Gemini for Google Workspace add-on. 

• For now, you can’t upload files on the Gemini mobile app. If you have uploaded a file in the Gemini web app, you can view the chat on the mobile app.

Upload files

Important: Currently, you can’t upload images and files in the same prompt. Learn how to upload a photo in Gemini Apps.

1. On your computer, go to gemini.google.com.
2. In the text box at the bottom, enter your question or prompt.
3. Click Add files .
   • To upload a file from your device: click Upload files .
   • To add a file from your Google Drive: click Drive .
     • To add files from your Drive, you need to have Gemini Apps Activity on and connect Google Workspace to Gemini Apps. If it’s not connected, you'll get the option to connect it. Learn about your data and the Google Workspace extension.
4. Click Submit .

Supported files

Important: Up to 10 files can be uploaded at a time, and each file can be up to 100 MB.

• Plain text files: TXT
• Document files: DOCX, PDF, RTF
• Documents created in Google Docs
• Tabular data files: CSV, TSV
• Spreadsheet files: XLSX
• Spreadsheets created in Google Sheets

Create a chart based on your data

You can ask the Gemini web app to create a chart based on your uploaded spreadsheet(s), zoom in to explore the chart, and customize the chart for your needs.

Customize a chart

1. Below the chart, click Edit . 
2. Choose how you want the chart to change. For example, you can edit  things like the chart type and labels. 
3. Click Update.
