You can get help from Gemini by touch or by saying “Hey Google” (if on) when your device is locked, based on your lock screen settings:
- If your Gemini on lock screen setting is on, Gemini can help you with answers to general questions when your device is locked.
- If your Google Assistant on lock screen setting is on in your Gemini settings, you can also get Gemini’s help with quick voice actions powered by Google Assistant when your device is locked, to do things like:
- Set, stop, and snooze alarms
- Set and stop timers
- Control media, like pause a song
- Control some phone features, like turn on the flashlight and change the volume
Important: Your Gemini mobile app can’t perform some tasks that Google Assistant can perform on lock screen when it is your primary active assistant, like reading messages. In these cases, you’ll need to unlock your phone.
Turn your Gemini mobile app’s lock screen setting on or off

To control whether Gemini can help you with answers to general questions when your device is locked:
- On your Android phone, open Gemini .
- At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial Settings.
- Tap Gemini on lock screen.
- Turn Responses on lock screen on or off.
To control whether Gemini can help you with quick voice actions powered by Google Assistant when your device is locked:
- On your Android phone, open Gemini .
- At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial Settings.
- Tap Google Assistant features in Gemini Google Assistant on lock screen.
To access the Google Assistant features menu, if needed, first turn on Use Google Assistant features. - Turn Responses on lock screen on or off.
