Chat with your Gemini mobile app to supercharge your ideas. Get help learning in new ways, writing thank you notes, planning events, and more. Gemini can connect with Google apps called Extensions, like Gmail, Maps, and YouTube, making it easy to get things done. Use text, voice, images and your camera to get help in new ways.
Your Gemini mobile app may be any of the following:
- On Android: The Gemini app, including as your mobile assistant.
- On iOS: The Gemini app or the Gemini tab in the Google app.
The Gemini mobile app may not be available for all languages, devices, accounts, or locations. Learn more about availability.
On iPhones, you can chat with Gemini in the Gemini mobile app. You can chat by voice or typing, go Live to have a real-time conversation, create images, and get help while you’re on the go. Interact with it through text, voice, images, and your camera to get help in new ways. You can also chat with Gemini in the Google app when you tap the Gemini tab .
What you need

A personal Google Account that you manage on your own, or a Google Workspace account for which your administrator has enabled access to Gemini Apps and Google Assistant. If you’re a Google Workspace administrator, learn how to enable access to Gemini Apps as an additional service. You can’t access the Gemini mobile app with:
- A work account that has Gemini Advanced or a school account.
- A Google Account managed by Family Link or with a Google Workspace for Education account designated as under the age of 18.
- You must be signed-in to your Google Account in the Google app.
- An eligible device you use in an available language and country or territory. Learn more about Gemini mobile app availability.
Use the Gemini app

On your iPhone or iPad, open the Gemini app .

Make sure that you’re signed in to your Google Account.
- To chat with Gemini, select an option:
- To enter your prompt, tap Keyboard , then enter your prompt.
- To say your prompt, tap Microphone , then say your prompt.
- To go Live, tap Live .

On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google app .

Make sure that you’re signed in to your Google Account.
- If Gemini is available for you, a Gemini tab will appear at the top of the Google app to allow you to switch between Search and Gemini.
- To get started, switch to the Gemini tab and follow the on-screen instructions.
- To chat with Gemini, choose an option:
- To enter your prompt, tap Keyboard , then enter your prompt.
- To say your prompt, tap Microphone , then say your prompt.
- To add a photo to your prompt, tap Image picker .
- Tap Send.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google app .
- At the top right, tap your Profile picture or initial Settings General.
- Check your setting for "Show Gemini."
- If it’s on , the Gemini tab will appear at the top of your Google app.
- If it’s off , the Gemini tab will no longer be available on your Google app home screen.
- You can still find your prior chats with Gemini in your Gemini Apps Activity.
Your Gemini mobile app & your location
Location data is always collected if you use Gemini Apps so that they can provide you with a response that is relevant to your query. For example, to respond to prompts like "What's the weather?", Gemini Apps need to know your location. Learn more about the location information Gemini Apps collect, why, and how is it used.
Gemini in the Google app may use your precise device location to provide you with more relevant responses. When you use Gemini, it uses the location permissions you choose for the Google app . Learn more about location permissions.
To check if Gemini in the Google app is accessing and using your precise location:
- On your iPhone, open the Settings app.
- Tap Location App location permissions.
- Tap Google .
- Check whether “Use precise location” is on .
- If it’s on , Gemini and other services in the Google app (like Search) can access and use your precise location.
- If it’s off , Gemini and other services in the Google app (like Search) cannot access and use your precise location.
- Choose location access for the app: Always, While Using the App, Ask Next Time, or Never.
Tip: Turning off your device location will impact other features and services hosted by the Google app, like weather and nearby results from Search.
