If you have issues or privacy concerns with Gboard, try these steps.
Note: Gboard is available for iPhones and iPads with iOS 9 and up.
Restore Gboard
Switch back to Gboard
If Gboard switches to another keyboard, you can switch it back.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open any app that you can type with, like Gmail or Keep.
- Tap where you can enter text.
- At the bottom of your keyboard, touch and hold Globe
.
- Tap Gboard.
Fix "null" next to "Gboard"
When you update your version of Gboard, you may see "null" next to Gboard in your keyboard list. To fix the issue, remove Gboard from your list, and then add it back.
- On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap Keyboard
Keyboards.
- At the top right, tap Edit.
- Next to "Gboard," tap Remove
.
- Tap Delete
Done.
- Tap Add new keyboard
Gboard.
If that doesn’t work, try restarting your iPhone or iPad.
Add Gboard back to your keyboard list
When you update Gboard, it could disappear from your keyboard list. To add it back:
- On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings.
- Tap General.
- Tap Keyboard
Keyboards.
- Tap Add new keyboard
Gboard.
Check privacy & erase search history
We know that what you type on your iPhone or iPad is personal, so Gboard keeps your info private.
What Gboard sends to Google:
- Your searches are sent to Google to get search results.
- Usage statistics are sent to let us know which features are used most often, and to help us improve.
- If you use Gboard's talk-to-text feature, your voice is sent to Google for transcription.
What Gboard doesn't send to Google:
- Anything you type, other than your searches, like passwords or chats with friends.
- Saved words aren’t sent. You can delete saved words at any time.
When you remove your Gboard search history, your past searches won't show up as predictions.
Delete search history from the Gboard app
- On your iPhone or iPad, open Gboard
.
- Tap Search settings.
- Tap Clear Gboard search history

Delete search history from Google app & Account
If you downloaded Gboard as part of the Google app, your past searches are saved to your device and might be saved to your Google Account.
Step 1: Delete from device
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google app
.
- At the top left, tap Settings
.
- In the settings menu, tap Gboard
Search settings.
- Tap Clear Gboard search history
Ok.
Step 2: Delete from account
When you’re signed in to the Google app and "Web & app activity" is turned on, your searches might be saved to your Google Account in My Activity. Learn how to delete searches saved in My Activity.
Gboard saves the words you type to help you with spelling, and to predict searches you could be interested in. These words are saved only to your device. You can delete saved words whenever you want.
Delete saved words from the Gboard app
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Gboard app

- Tap Keyboard settings

Delete saved words from Google app
If you downloaded Gboard as part of the Google app:
- On your iPhone or iPad, open the Google app
.
- At the top left, tap Settings
.
- Tap Gboard
