Create a view

To share virtual copy of a table, or to share only part of a table's data, you can create a view.

For example, suppose you have a table with details on employees. You want to share the data with collaborators, but you cannot share all the details (such as the salary column). You can select a subset of the columns and make a new subset view of the table. This view has a different name and you can share this new view with your collaborators. The view will stay in sync with the table from which it was created: any relevant updates made to the original table will appear in the view as well.

  1. Choose File > Create view.
    • Optional: Uncheck any columns that shouldn't be included in the view table.
  2. Enter a name for the view.
  3. Click Save view.

This new table is private by default. You can click Share and change its permissions.

Views in new Fusion Tables

To create a view in the New look:

  1. Choose File > Create view.
    • Optional: Uncheck any columns that shouldn't be included in the view table.
  2. Click Create view.
  3. A new table called "View of <your table name>" is created.

This new table is private by default. You can click Share and change its permissions.

Filtered views

To create a view of a specific set of rows:

  1. Apply one or more filters to create the filtered set of rows you'd like to share. See "Applicable filters," below.
  2. Choose File > Create view.  By default, the checkbox will apply the filters to your new view.
  3. Click Create view.
  4. A new table called "View of <your table name>" is created.

This new table is private by default. You can click Share and change its permissions.

Applicable filters

Not all filters support filtered views. The filter must have the form <column> = "value". The presence of a non-supported filter on the current tab when File > Create view is chosen will inactivate the checkbox for a filtered view.

Filters that support filtered views are created by:

  • Checking one box in a filter.
  • Entering the same number in both boxes of a number filter on a column that is not a formula column.
