Add and manage contacts on Fitbit Ace LTE

You can add contacts who can call or message your child on their Fitbit Ace LTE.1

Any member of your Family group can be added as a contact, including siblings with their own Fitbit Ace LTE. Contacts outside of your Family group can also be added, restricted to adults and caregivers 13 years of age or over.2

Parents, family members and contacts require either the Fitbit Ace app or their own Fitbit Ace LTE to communicate with your child. Your child must have an active Ace Pass data plan to call and message.

Add parents

If your child is using their Fitbit Ace LTE with a Google Account without supervision, they can manage their own contacts and parents aren’t automatically included as contacts.

To add a parent for your child:

  1. On your device, open the Fitbit Ace app .
  2. Select Contacts on your child's card.
  3. Tap + Add parent.
  4. On the next page, review the information displayed. Tap Continue.
  5. Your Google family group members appear onscreen.
    • If the person is included in the list but they're not a parent:
      1. Tap their profile and then Give parental permissions.
      2. Tap Confirm to give parental permissions.
    • If the person isn't listed, you must first invite them to your Google Family.
      1. Select + Send invitation and then enter their email address and then tap Send
      2. Tap Confirm to invite them to your family. Once they accept your Google family invite, you'll be notified via email.
      3. Go back to the list of Google family members, tap their profile and then Give parental permissions and then Confirm.
Note: If you have an existing Google Family account, the parent(s) will already be listed.

For other ways to add a parent, visit Add a parent to your family group.

Add siblings

  1. On your mobile device, open the Fitbit Ace app .

  2. Tap Contacts on your child’s card.

  3. Tap + Add contact.

  4. Tap the sibling’s name listed below Add from your Google Family. If the sibling isn’t listed, make sure that they are part of your Google Family group.

Add other contacts

To add contacts for your child:

  1. On your mobile device, open the Fitbit Ace app .
  2. Tap Contacts on your child’s card.
  3. Tap + Add contact.
  4. Enter the contact’s display name and email address.
The display name is the name that will appear on the watch (e.g. Aunt Emily, Uncle John, etc.) and the contact's email address must be a valid Gmail account.
  5. Tap Send invite.
  6. The contact receives an email with the invitation and a link to download the Fitbit Ace app . You'll be notified once they accept.

Note: The invitation expires after 2 weeks. If an invitation expires, send a new invite. The email contains a brief overview about contacts and instructions for how to accept the invitation.

Accepting an invite to be a contact

The contact can accept an invite through these steps:

  1. Download the Fitbit Ace app on their mobile device.
  2. Open the Fitbit Ace app and sign in with the account where the invite was sent.
  3. Once they’ve successfully signed in, the app automatically lets them know they’ve been invited.
  4. Choose Accept invite to accept the invitation.
Note: If the contact doesn’t get an invitation in the app, ask them to check that they are signed in with the same Google account that you sent the invitation to.
Manage contacts
  1. On your mobile device, open the Fitbit Ace app .
  2. Tap Contacts on your child’s card.
  3. Tap next to the contact you’d like to manage.
  4. From here you can update the contact as follows:
    • Edit display name: Enter a new display name for the contact.
    • Emergency contact: Set or remove as emergency contact.
    • Remove from contacts: Remove contact (parents can only be removed as contacts if they are removed from the Google Family group).

Emergency contacts

Parents are set as emergency contacts by default. Your child can check their emergency contacts by looking for the star icon on their contacts’ photos. If your child initiates a Call for help on their Fitbit Ace LTE, their watch will attempt to call you and any other listed parent. If parents are unreachable:

  • Your child’s Ace LTE will begin calling the designated  emergency contacts.
  • You, and any other listed parent, will receive a notification that your child called for help.
You can also set non-parent contacts as emergency contacts. To do so, toggle the slider Set as emergency contact when you send the invitation, or follow the instructions for Manage contacts. Only one non-parent contact can be added as an emergency contact.

Call for help on the Fitbit Ace LTE

Your child’s Fitbit Ace LTE must be on the latest software version to Call for help.

To initiate a call for help:

  1. Long press the top side button.
  2. Tap Call for help.
  3. A 5-second timer will begin with the option to stop.
  4. The watch will then begin calling contacts beginning with the first listed parent.
Note: Call for help will automatically try to call the Family manager first, followed by any other parent, and then the emergency contact. Both parents will receive a “called for help” message. Call for help does not call emergency services.

1 Calling, messaging and location sharing are dependent upon network connectivity and other factors and may not be available in all areas or if airplane mode is on for your child’s Fitbit Ace LTE. If your child is using the Fitbit Ace LTE with a Google account without supervision, they can manage their own contacts.

2 Contacts outside your Family group must have a Google account without supervision.
