How to record BT heart rate instead of watch optical sensor data in Google Fit on WearOS?
0
I connect a Polar BT chest strap to my Ticwatch 3 and start exercising w Google Fit. During exercise I see that HR is shown from the chest sensor, proper HR is shown even if I remove watch from wrist.
But afterwards in the stored data in Fit app on the phone I can see that it's not the same data as was measured during exercise and if removed the watch there is just no HR data, confirming that stored data is not actually coming from the BT sensor

I attached today's recording. Google Fit shows 132 avg and 170+ max HR. Polar for the same 120 ad 143.
And I know that during the exercise Fit on the watch was showing the same HR values, but stores the data measured by the watch, which is obviously non sense.

I'm using Polar H10 chest strap which is probably the most precise HR detector absolutely on consumer level.
It's connected to both the phone and the watch during exercise.

Yesterday I did a run similarly, where stored data looked ok, maybe at that time chest strap data was stored, or just that it's a more suited type of movement for wrist optical sensor (steady state, no wrist movement as in cycling).

Hi Örs Jakab,

It definitely seems like the more-accurate tracking from the chest strap should take priority over the heart rate data captured by your watch.

I don't have any external heart rate monitoring equipment to test with; are you able to disable heart rate monitoring on the watch and solely rely on the chest strap? Or would that prevent any heart rate data from being collected?

Either way, this could clearly be handled better. I'd encourage you to tap the three-dot menu button when reviewing a journal entry (like your morning bike ride) and using Help & feedback > Send feedback to report this directly to the developers. Note that you won't typically get a reply to feedback submissions, but your comments (and diagnostic data) will be read and reviewed by the development team. Hopefully they can use your feedback to help improve how this works going forward.

Cheers,
John

I can disable body sensors in WearOS GoogleFit, I also thought this would force Fit to use and record BT sensor data, but actually in that case it doesn't even show any HR info, only HeartPoints, much less record anything

Ah, I was afraid that would be the case. Hopefully the developers will use your feedback report to fix this in a future update.
