Link AdMob to Firebase

You can link your AdMob app(s) to Firebase so that you can use your Google Analytics data in AdMob and have your AdMob ad-revenue data available in Analytics for improved monetization reporting. To use your Google Analytics data in AdMob, your Firebase project must be linked to your Google Analytics 4 property. Also, once linked, you can use your AdMob data in Firebase.

Learn more about the benefits of using Firebase and Google Analytics together with AdMob.

By linking AdMob to Firebase, your Google Analytics data will be available to AdMob independent of your Google Analytics Data Sharing Settings. This allows your Analytics data to flow to AdMob to enhance product features and improve app monetization.

In this article:

Before you begin

  • If you don't already have a Firebase project and a Firebase app, follow the Firebase getting started guide for your platform: iOS or Android.

  • Make sure that Google Analytics is enabled in your Firebase project:

    • If you're creating a new Firebase project, enable Google Analytics during the project creation workflow.

    • If you have an existing Firebase project that doesn't have Google Analytics enabled, you can enable Google Analytics from the Integrations tab of  the Settings icon  > Project settings in the Firebase console.

Get started with AdMob

Follow the getting started guide for your platform: iOS or Android.  This guide describes how to do the following:

  • Setting up your AdMob account (including enabling User metrics and linking your AdMob app to Firebase)
  • Adding the Google Mobile Ads SDK to your app
  • Adding the Google Analytics for Firebase SDK to your app (optional, but recommended)
  • Implementing your first ad in your app
Note: Linking your AdMob app(s) to FIrebase is highly recommended, especially if you use AdMob as a mediation platform for your apps.

Permission required for linking

In order to link an AdMob app to Firebase, you must have the firebase.links.create permission. This permission is included in either of the following roles:

If you don't have either of these roles, you can ask a project Owner to assign one of these roles to your account via the Firebase console IAM settings.

Review which Firebase apps are linked to AdMob

  1. Sign in to Firebase, then select your Firebase project.
  2. Click the Settings icon, then select Project settings.
  3. Click the Integrations tab.
  4. On the AdMob card, click Manage.
Unlinking a Firebase app from AdMob disables user metrics and AdMob will lose access to all previously collected user metrics data.
  1. Sign in to Firebase, then select your Firebase project.
  2. Click the Settings icon, then select Project settings.
  3. Click the Integrations tab.
  4. On the AdMob card, click Manage.
  5. Click Manage in AdMob next to the app you want to unlink.
  6. Continue the unlinking process in AdMob. Linking and unlinking can only be completed in AdMob.

You will still be able to view the Google Analytics data in your Firebase project. However, this data will no longer show up on the AdMob app overview dashboard or be used to improve AdMob monetization.
