Find & delete your files

You can view and sort the files on your device or memory card with Files by Google.

View your files

  1. On your Android device, open Files by Google Files by Google.
    • If you don't have the app, get it from the Play Store.
    • Files by Google works on Androids 5.0 and up.
  2. At the bottom, tap Browse Browse.
  3. Tap a category. You’ll see files from that category in a list.
    • To change how the files show up, tap Grid view Thumbnail view. To go back to a list, tap List view List.
  4. Optional: To sort your files, on the top right, tap More More. Select an option to sort your files by File name, Date, or Size.

See file info

  1. Next to the file’s name, tap the Down arrow Down arrow.
    • If you don’t see the arrow, on the top right, tap List view List.
  2. Tap File info. You’ll see details like the last time and place the file was changed.

Rename files

  1. Next to the file’s name, tap the Down arrow Down arrow.
    • If you don’t see the arrow, on the top right, tap List view List.
  2. Tap Rename.
  3. Enter a new name.
  4. Tap OK.

View new filter

  1. On your Android device, open Files by Google Files by Google.
  2. At the bottom of your screen, tap Browse Browse.
  3. Tap Search .
  4. Below the Search field, Smart Filters will be available. 
  5. Tap the smart filter you want to use. You can select Audio, Documents & Others, Images, Videos, Large files, From this week, and SD card.
    1. To deselect the filter, tap on filters again. 

Note: You may have to scroll to the right to see all the smart filters. 

Delete files

  1. On your Android device, open Files by Google Files by Google.
  2. At the bottom, tap Browse Choose file.
  3. Tap a category. You’ll see files from that category in a list.
  4. Next to a file you want to delete, tap  the Down arrow Down arrow.
    • If you don’t see the arrow, on the top right, tap List view List.
  5. From here you can:
    • Delete a single file: Tap Delete and then OK.
    • Delete multiple files: Tap Select. Tap the files you want to delete. On the top right, tap Delete Delete and thenOK.
Restore deleted content
To give you more free storage immediately, when you delete a file in Files by Google, it will be permanently deleted. Please be careful before taking this action.
