Open, manage and edit PDFs in Files by Google

You can directly open and edit PDF files in the Files by Google app.

Open and manage a PDF

On your Android device, open Files by Google .
Under 'Recents', you can find your recently added or downloaded PDF files, or search for a PDF file.
Tap the PDF file that you want to open. From the open PDF, you can take these actions:
- To zoom in and centre a section of the PDF, pinch or double-tap on that section of the document.
  - To fit the width to the page, double-tap again.
- To share a PDF, tap Share .
- To mark a PDF as favourite, tap Star .
- To do more actions, tap More . You can:
  - Open with: Open the PDF in a different app.
  - Move to Bin: Move a PDF to Bin. Learn how to move files to Bin and restore files from Bin.
  - Move to: Move your PDF to a new location on your device. Learn how to move files to a new folder in internal storage.
  - Copy to: Copy a PDF to a folder on your device. Learn how to copy files to a new folder in internal storage.
  - Move to safe folder: To protect the PDF with a PIN or pattern, move your PDF to safe folder. Learn how to protect your files with safe folder.
  - File info: Find the PDF details such as the modified time and location of the file. Learn how to view file information.
  - Find in file: Search for specific text in the PDF. To find the next or previous usage of the text, tap the up arrow or down arrow .
  - Print: Print the opened PDF file.

Tip: To open the previous and next files, swipe left or right.

You can annotate PDFs in Files by Google.

On your Android device, open Files by Google .
Open a PDF.
At the bottom right, tap Edit .
At the bottom, you can find the toolbar with multiple annotating tools. To select an annotating tool, you can use a stylus or your finger.
- Pen:
  - To annotate or mark over the PDF, use freehand strokes. You can choose the brush size and colour.
- Highlighter:
  - To highlight text, use freehand strokes. You can choose the highlighter size and colour.
- Erase:
  - To erase any individual line that you create, wipe through the line.
- Undo:
  - Undo any action on the PDF.
- Redo:
  - Redo any action on the PDF.
- Show annotations:
  - To show all annotations, select Show annotations .
- Hide annotations:
  - To hide all annotations, select Hide annotations .
At the top right, tap Save copy Upload.
- When you save a copy, it's uploaded to your Google Drive. You can rename the file and select which Google Drive folder to save it in.
- When you upload the new copy, the original copy remains unmarked and saved on your device.
