Compress your files

You can use Files by Google to compress files to save storage space or if you need files in ZIP format.

What you need

To compress files with Files by Google, you need Android version 8 or higher.

Compress your files

Important: Files will be compressed to ZIP format.

To compress your files into a ZIP file:

1. On your Android device, open Files by Google .
2. Select the files or folders that you want to compress.
3. Next to the files or folders that you want to compress, tap More .
4. From the drop-down menu, tap Compress.
5. Name the ZIP file.
   • Make sure your ZIP file name doesn't include spaces or periods. The compressed file will have a .zip extension.
