How to scan documents with Files by Google

You can quickly scan documents in Files by Google and save them as searchable PDFs.

Scan documents with the Files app

  1. On your Android device, open Files by Google Files by Google.
  2. At the bottom right, tap Scan .
  3. Point your device’s camera at the document you want to scan.
    • A blue outline indicates where the picture will be cropped.
  4. Take a photo of the document that you'd like to scan.
    • To enable automatic capture, you can either select Auto capture or Manual.
  5. When you preview your scanned document, you can:
    • Adjust scan area: Tap Crop and rotate .
    • Adjust the colors or make the image greyscale: Tap Filter .
    • Remove unwanted objects: Tap Clean .
    • Scan multiple documents at once: Tap Add Plus.
    • Retake the photo: Tap Retake .
    • Delete a page: Tap Delete .
  6. Once the scan is complete, tap Done.
  7. You can find your scanned doc under “Recents” on the app homepage, or find them in the Scanned folder.

Tip: Scanned documents are automatically saved as PDFs.

Find your scanned documents

You can find your scanned documents in a dedicated "Scanned" folder in the "Downloads" directory.

  1. On your Android device, open Files by Google Files by Google .
  2. Tap Documents and then Scanned.

Tip: If you can't find your scanned PDF files, you can also type pdf in your search bar.
