Use your Google Wifi

Set up and manage your Google Wifi settings

Here's how to set up and manage your Fiber network using a Google Wifi router.

Set up your Google Wifi

Your Google Fiber installer should have set up your Google Wifi on the day you were installed. If you ever need to reconnect your Google Wifi to your in-home Wi-Fi network, you can do so:

  1. Use the power cord to plug in your primary Google Wifi point.
  2. Use the Ethernet cable to connect the Google Wifi point to the Fiber Jack on your wall.
  3. Download the Google Wifi app to set up Wi-Fi and any additional Google Wifi access points that you've purchased. Please view the full set-up instructions on the Google Wifi Help Center.

If you are having any issues, view these Google Wifi articles or get in touch with the Google Wifi team.

Download the Google Wifi app

The Google Wifi companion app is required to set up your in-home wireless network and manage your devices. It is compatible with devices running Android 4 and up or iOS 9 and up.

Download the app at the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.

Note: If you’re searching the Apple App Store on an iPad, make sure “iPhone Only” is selected in the upper-left corner.

Edit your network settings

Google Wifi is a new type of home Wi-Fi system that provides seamless coverage throughout your home. Google Wifi uses multiple Wifi points in different rooms for fast Wi-Fi in every corner of your home.

On top of great coverage, your home utilizes our Network Assist feature. Network Assist actively manages and optimizes your Wi-Fi network behind the scenes so you don’t have to. However, you can still edit numerous Wi-Fi network settings, such as WAN settings, how to factory reset, device names, Wifi points, email notifications, and much more.

For complete information on managing your Wi-Fi network settings, refer to Google Wifi Help.

Change your Wi-Fi network name or password

You can give your Wi-Fi network a name that is different from the setup name found on the bottom of your Wifi point. Network names must conform to the following guidelines:

  • Between 1 and 31 characters
  • No accidental or intentional spaces at the beginning or end

You can also customize your Wi-Fi network password. Passwords must conform to the following guidelines:

  • A combination of letters and numbers
  • Between 8 and 63 characters
  • No accidental or intentional spaces at the beginning or end
  • No special characters

The Google Wifi App > Settings tab provides all the functionality you’ll need. Refer to Google Wifi Help > Change Wi-Fi network name for the simple instructions.
