Train a universal remote

You can "train" many brands of universal remote to work with Google Fiber TV, using the IR learning method below. This method is often explained in the manufacturer's documentation.

Currently, only the Logitech Harmony universal remote has a complete code set for the Google Fiber TV Box, so you don't need to train it.

The following programming procedure are for advanced users, so be sure you're comfortable with all the steps before you begin.

Step 1. Disable Bluetooth on the Google Fiber remote:

  • Press and hold both  and 8 for 3 seconds. The  tv button flashes twice.

  • Press and hold both  and  tv box for 3 seconds. The  tv box button flashes twice.

Step 2. Program your universal remote by IR learning:

  • Follow your universal remote manufacturer's instructions to train their remote using the IR method.

Step 3. Confirm that IR learning worked by using the universal remote to:

  • Turn the TV Box on and off.

  • Change the channel.

  • Display the main menu.

If these keys do not work, repeat step 2 and then check again.

Step 4. Re-enable Bluetooth on the Google Fiber remote:

  • Press and hold both  and 5 for 3 seconds. The  tv button flashes once.

  • Point the Bluetooth remote at the TV Box, and press any key (except tv and input).

Step 5. Confirm that Bluetooth is re-enabled by using the Google Fiber remote to (while NOT pointing it at the TV Box):

  • Turn the TV Box on and off.

  • Change the channel.

  • Display the main menu.
