Port forwarding allows you to expose applications or services that you host on your network (such as HTTP or FTP) to external Internet users. For example, you might implement port forwarding if you host a multi-player game server on your network. In such cases, your application uses a specific port, and you would need to forward that port in order for devices and users outside of your home to access that application.
You can use the Google Fiber app to set up and configure port forwarding settings.
These are advanced settings. You won't need to view or change these settings for typical use of your network.
To add a new port forwarding rule:
- Touch Network .
- Touch Edit network settings.
- Touch Advanced network settings.
- Touch Ports to open the ports screen.
- Touch Add a new rule.
- Select the device, service, and protocol as they appear that you wish to forward. This will make additional fields appear on the screen.
- Touch Save when finished and click Confirm.
