About audio equipment/connections

If you prefer to use an audio receiver as your sound system instead of or in addition to your TV speakers, the following options provide four common ways to connect:

  • TV Box by HDMI to the audio receiver with speaker wires to the speakers HDMI from the audio receiver to the TV (only if your TV supports audio pass-through)

  • TV Box by HDMI to the TV and an optical cable from the TV to the audio receiver with speaker wires to the speakers

  • TV Box by HDMI to the TV and stereo cables (red/white) to the A/V receiver using the analog break-out cable (or stereo to self-powered speakers)

  • TV Box by S/PDIF (optical) using a TOSLINK cable to a supported audio receiver or TV. You can use the S/PDIF audio port with either HDMI or analog video connections.

If you are familiar with electronics, you can certainly come up with your own creative way to connect!

When setting up your audio equipment with an HDMI cable, give the cable a once-over to make sure the connections all look good and there are no issues with the cable. If the cable is old or damaged, you might find that your audio lags or drops sound. So save yourself some time crawling around behind your entertainment center and check those cables from the start.

The Fiber remote control isn't designed to fully control audio equipment, such as audio receivers. However, you can use IR learning to program the volume up/down and mute buttons to work with your audio equipment. Simply follow our IR learning instructions, using your original sound system remote for those buttons.

If you want the convenience of using one remote to control all of your devices (TV, Google Fiber TV Box, and audio equipment), you might consider purchasing a universal remote control, such as the Logitech Harmony remote.
