You can use a Nexus 7 or other mobile device to enhance your Google Fiber TV. With the Google Fiber mobile app, you can use your device as a remote control, manage DVR recordings, and stream some types of programs. Get the Google Fiber app for Android.
Depending on when you signed up for Google Fiber TV, you might have received a Nexus 7 as part of your package. The Nexus 7 is a fully functional Android device, so you can use all of its other Android features as well. Refer to the Nexus 7 help center for complete details about using your tablet.
Although this version of the Nexus 7 does not support mobile data plans (SIM cards), you can use the fully functional tablet to browse the web and download apps from the Google Play store with any Wi-Fi connection.
To turn on your Nexus 7, press the power button on the right edge near the top for a few seconds, and then release it.
The first time you turn on your Nexus 7, a Welcome screen appears.
- To choose a different language, touch the menu.
- To continue, touch the play icon and follow the instructions.
A message prompts you to sign in. Be sure to sign in with your Google Fiber account, so all the email, contacts, Calendar events, and other data associated with that account are automatically synced with your tablet. If you have multiple Google accounts, you can add the others later.
If you want to use your tablet as a remote control for your TVs, it must be on your Google Fiber home network. You can use it on any wireless network, however, for apps other than the Google Fiber mobile app.
