Since switching over to GoogleFi, only one person can send me text messages.  I don't get any messages from anyone else, on multiple phones, android, and iphone.  I checked that everything was updated, and that hangouts wasn't activated.  Calls work fine both incoming and outgoing, I simply cannot get any text messages.

Double check the following:
  1. Go to https://hangouts.google.com/ and un-check:  ... / Settings / Receive SMS and voicemail in Hangouts
  2. Go to the Android Messages app and click:  ... / Settings / Default SMS app / Android Messages.
  3. If you are switching from an iPhone:  https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage/

already did that, and I am not coming from an iphone.  Also checked the APN settings

Yes, my number was ported in.  It took almost a week to get the number in.  I've done a factory reset but that still isn't helping.  I also cannot use the dialer codes - they don't do anything.  I type them in and it just sits there.

I believe the dialer codes will only work using the Google Dialer. Also, the codes for carrier switching only work on "Designed for Fi" phones.

This is a good solution, only note is that if you try to go to the website on a mobile device, Google redirects you to the App Store, so you have to find a desktop web browser for the fix to work.

I am having the same problem. I have tried absolutely everything. I have been working with Google agents for well over a month and no solution. I have done everything including factory reset. That about does it for me I need to switch to a provider that will allow me to text on my phone. Extremely disappointed.

Solution!

Mine was working without issue until suddenly, without updates or changes it stopped.Adding this because it just helped. I followed support instructions, but as it failed and it took a while to hear back, I started clicking around.

iPhone
Cellular > Network Selection > Turn off Automatic - They have you go back to the main setting screen, which turns Automatic back on, however I clicked a different provider. This provider didn't work, but I let it try to connect/sent messages that failed. Then I went back in and clicked Automatic on, and suddenly texts came through after it connecgted.
