Issues with sending/receiving SMS/MMS messages 0 Recommended Answers 69 Replies 94 Upvotes

It seems that sending and receiving of SMS/MMS messages has been an issue lately for my wife and I (both on Pixel 3s). We've rebooted the phones and have ensured we have good connections be it WiFi or cell connections. Is anyone else experiencing this issue within the last few days?

Delayed sending of text messages or not receiving them at all. Sent multiple text messages today to my wife's Pixel 3 and she didn't get them until 5 hours later yet no signal issues in her location. This has not happened on our previous carrier.

That is odd as there is no reported issues and I have not seen other reports like this. Does it happen from her to you as well?

It is happening to my wife and I as well. Every time she goes to work she does not have signal in her building. Yet hours or even days after she leaves work, she still does not get her texts until she goes to specific locations, at that point, she receives about all of them. I know it's not a huge issue, but it is really a hassle to have to go to TJ Maxx just to get your text messages.

I have a curious version of this issue , also between husband and wife, also on identical Pixel 3s.
She receives and sends sms from/to me using the Messages app.  I am able to send her texts, but not receive them.  They are not delayed, they just do not arrive. I exchange texts with others without incident. I have uninstalled Hangouts on all of our devices. I have duplicated the issue using the Signal app on my phone.  I have verified that her number is not blocked on my device. Issue persists on wifi and Fi network.  We can make and take voice calls with each other.

I don’t have a clue.

User 4161594257250860429,

It sounds like you may still have Hangouts set to handle Fi messages. Since you've already uninstalled Hangouts on all your devices, it's easiest to clear this up using a computer browser. Navigate to hangouts.google.com, sign in, then select settings from the hamburger menu in the upper left corner. Make sure the "Receive SMS and voicemail in Hangouts" item is unchecked.

Hope this is useful.

Family of 4 with Moto G6 on Google fi.
My hubby sent two texts 5 min apart but one came on time, the other came next day, more than 12 hrs delay.
It happens too often among 4 of us.
Any solution?

I'm having a similar problem on my Nexus 5X, where messages I send/receive to/from other Project Fi users are not going through at all. It doesn't happen all of the time, but often enough to be a hassle. Messages is set as my default app, Hangouts is not set to receive messages, everything is up to date, I've restarted my phone multiple times, but still this problem has persisted for over a month now. Is there anything else we can try?

I just switched to Google Fi on Friday and am experiencing delayed texts up to 24 hours.  Yesterday I got four texts from a friend and two were from Saturday around 11:00am and they came on Sunday at 1:20pm.  The third one was sent around 11:00am on Sunday and I got that at 1:20pm also.  They all seemed to have come with an actual text that was sent at 1:20pm.  They weren't even in the order they were sent in.

Update, I completely disconnected phone and truck, and I suspected messages were caught in the cloud... so I went out, started truck, and re-added phone to truck, and the message I was expecting immediately came in...  I will be having them send me a new Pixel3, worst case, I get a newer battery, but this one is only 6 months old, it is the 2nd replacement already......
