Visual voicemail not working - Pixel 3 XL

Visual voicemail is not showing up as an option on the phone app like it used to do in my pixel 2 XL. I have tried uninstalling all of the updates and reinstalling them. I can access voicemail by calling it but can't tell when I have voicemail to check. Does anyone have any advice on what to try? Thanks.

You can both listen to and read transcriptions of your voicemail messages.

Open your Pixel Phone app > 3 dots > Settings > Voice mail > Notifications > Advanced > Show Notification Dot

7/21/19 UPDATE: I tested my phone today and it seems to be working again! I received a visual voicemail. However, it did not translate very well. Google still needs to work on the quality of the translations from voicemail to text. I went to fi.google.com - settings - voicemail - and "opted in" for them to listen to my voicemails in order to improve quality. If anyone else is interested, you may want to consider doing the same. I figure there isn't anything on my voicemails they shouldn't hear. And they're listening all of the time anyway, right? ;)

Thank you for posting your update.  
 
Sometimes transcripts are not the best; however, it's often because the person leaving the message is not speaking clearly enough to be recognized correctly.  I'm glad to hear you've opted in to contribute to improvements to the translation system.

I have the same problem. Though I think it's tied to setting up a Work Profile. When I did a factory reset, visual voicemail works... Then when I setup a Work Profile I stop getting new ones. I may take some time to prove that theory.

Using a pixel 3 xl.

Visual voicemail seems to be working again for me now. Not sure what changed.

Yes it continues to happen occasionally and the only thing I've figured out to fix it is restarting my device. I have the Google Pixel 3 XL from Verizon

Me too! I got visual voicemails and a notification icon up until June 24 on my Pixel 3 on Google Fi. Since then, nothing! People told me they had left voicemail but I hadn’t received any. Eventually, I found out I could phone in, and had 34 messages waiting for me! I’ve spent hours on a chat with Fi support, to no avail. I upgraded to Android 10, hoping that would fix the problem, but no such luck! What can we do about this mess?

Yes, same exact issue.  VVM just randomly stopped working. Called Fi Support and their solutions are to clear Cache and Storage for Phone app. Did these steps yet no resolve.
C'mon Google, step it up, fix please.

Found another Fi Support thread which suggested deleting Storage data within Carrier Services and Fi app...this worked.  Visual Voicemail is now working again after taking these steps.

Pixel 3 on AT&T, was getting an error about my sim card being "required to be in the device" when refreshing Visual Voicemail.  Deleted Carrier Services data, and it works now.

i am deaf and I asked google fi to turn off my voicemail
because i couldn't hear the messages that couldn't be transcribed for some reason and google fi refuses to accommodate a deaf and disabled customer whose inbox is only transcribed 5% in total.    they insist that disabled people
must pay for
voicemail even though there is no way to hear them when their crappy visual voicemail hardly ever works at all.
