My Urgent Advice to those on a group plan 2 Recommended Answers 4 Replies 0 Upvotes

Based on my own very recent experience:
1. If non-owner members of your plan want to buy a new phone, they will be unable to choose the 24-month payment option. That option is available only for the group owner.
2. Even if non-owner members of your plan pay upfront for the new phone, they will be unable to select Device Protection. That option is available only for the group owner. I had to remove my wife from the group plan so that she could add Device Protection, then add her back into the group. (I very much hope that her $100 Fi credit is not denied because she will not have had 30 days "uninterrupted" activation -- because she was off Fi for five minutes while we jumped through these ludicrous hoops.)
So my Urgent Advice is, if a non-owner member of your plan wants to buy a new phone, remove that member from the group to "go solo" for as long as it takes to buy the phone (whether or not on the 24-month payment plan) and select Device Protection, then add him/her back into the group plan.
