Using corporate VPN when tethering over a Project Fi phone 2 Recommended Answers 4 Replies 2 Upvotes

Hello, I've just subscribed to Project Fi, and waiting for a phone delivery. However, my coworker, also on Project Fi, showed me something that might be a complete show stopper for me.
When tethering a laptop through his Pixel 2XL, he cannot connect to our corporate network over our Fortinet SSL VPN.  He authenticates on the VPN successfully, and the Forticlient shows that he is connected to VPN, however, he cannot reach any IP on the network. I can tether with Fortinet SSL VPN to our network over my Verizon Droid Turbo ( Android 7.0) without a problem or any participation from our IT department.
Does anybody have experience with using corporate VPN when tethering over a Project Fi phone?
Alternatively, does anybody know if I can return an unactivated project Fi phone and cancel subscription if I have monthly phone payment plan?
Thank you.

Red, thank you for your answer.  The return policy might be helpful. I would prefer it to work of course. I just want to clarify that VPN needs to  work on the tethered laptop, not the phone.

That's how it works
If you tether the laptop to the phone and VPN is running on the phone then the laptop is under that VPN
