Hi everyone,
We’re excited to announce that you can now make and receive calls over Wi-Fi, use the Enhance network Google Fi VPN, and identify and block spam numbers, all on your Android Compatible with Fi device. The ability to identify and block spam numbers is also now available on iOS Compatible with Fi devices. These have been some of our top requested features to bring to more devices, and we’re excited to be enabling these for more users.
Wi-Fi calling allows you to make calls over Wi-Fi, even when there’s no cellular reception available
To turn on Wi-Fi calling on your Android device:
Go to the Google Fi app
On the account tab, go to Phone Settings
Select Wi-Fi calling
Toggle on Turn on Wi-Fi calling
Enable the requested permissions
Enhance network gives you an extra layer of security through our Google Fi VPN. This is now available to all Android Compatible with Fi devices.
To turn on enhance network on your Android device:
Go to the Google Fi app
On the account tab, go to Phone Settings
Select Fi network tools
Toggle on Enhance network
Enable the requested permissions
Google Fi will be able to help identify potential spam calls by notifying you that an incoming call is “Suspected spam”.
By default the spam identification will be turned on for Android Compatible with Fi devices. To automatically block these calls and never receive them:
Go to the Google Fi app
On the account tab, go to Phone Settings
Select Spam & blocked numbers
Toggle on Block spam calls
Enable the requested permissions
To enable the spam identification and blocking features on iOS:
Go to the Google Fi iOS app
Select the Menu (three bars at the top left)
SelectSpam & blocked numbers
Turn on Block spam calls
Go to the iOS settings app
Select Phone
Select Call Blocking & Identification
Enable Google Fi

Since signing up for Fi in March 2018 I have had MANY problems making wifi calls in airplane mode with a Moto X4. Fi support has been of absolutely NO help.
In March 2018 I had extreme difficulty in getting wifi calling to work. I finally got it to work by using Hangouts/Hangouts Dialer once.
I have had further problems doing wifi calling. For instance in April 2019 I was able to do wifi calling in airplane mode at my residence in the US. I then visited Sweden and was UNABLE to do wifi calling in airplane mode on a moto X4 without using Hangouts/Hangouts Dialer. This was particularly annoying since I had (under the exact same circumstances) been able to do wifi calling in airplane mode in 2018 in Sweden using ONLY the blue Google phone dialer.
Note that in these situations I was using my own supplied wifi either at home or with a Huawei hot spot in Sweden (using a Swedish data sim). I had one failure of wifi calling in Canada in September 2019 using hotel supplied wifi.
When I returned to the US in May 2019, wifi calling in airplane mode STILL did not work without the use of Hangouts,etc. I spent many hours with Google Fi support to no avail until wifi calling in airplane mode suddenly started working without Hangouts and without any phone setting changes!
In summary, the main reason I started Fi service was the possibility of wifi calling. Information from Google Fi has been contradictory about wifi calling. The Fi post above does not make it clear whether wifi calling IN AIRPLANE MODE will work with only the blue Google dialer on my Moto X4. My service is currently paused.
I hope that Fi service will improve with respect to wifi calling?

I don't see Enhance Network option in phone settings on Google Fi app. I see wifi calling and spam protection though. I am using a Samsung Galaxy Note 10+. Is there anything I should do to enable VPN? Thanks

UPDATE: The feature is still rolling out across all eligible devices. You should expect to see it on your device over the next couple of days. Please do update this thread if you don't see it shortly.

I'm investigating these issues further and I will follow-up when I have more information.

@terrell - So the progress and evolution with the phone and service has been pretty shitty - SO can we UPDATE as you state about the ONE ISSUE here or can we get SOME HELP and SUPPORT and answers from someone that CAN rather than hurry up and wait and nothing or little - it took WEEKS to figure out that the 2ND phone was shipped with the WRONG SIM CARD and then there is a LOT MORE TO THE 1st phones and service issues. I am AVAILABLE or will make myself - ARE YOU or ANYONE THAT CAN DO IT!!!?? Probably if you are answering on this chain, you might not be too high up the food chain or management chain so to speak and that has been a large problem, but I am a lowly and simple guy myself too and can be a bit of an idiot especially when having to deal with a few of the support staff that are also challenged a bit too??
