Google Fi is an MVNO using TMobile, Sprint, and US Cellular. Using a designed for Fi phone, you can enjoy automatic switching between the three networks. If using a compatible with Fi phone, you will be using TMobile.
Hope this is useful.

You understand incorrectly. Only designed for Fi phones will switch automatically. Compatible with Fi phones will only work on T-Mobile.

You might also check the Fi coverage map to see if your area looks better than just Sprint.

Why are Sprint phones not compatible with Fi if Fi phones use sprint towers?
Recommended Answer
Phones that are designed for Fi are compatible with Sprint.

The minimum requirements for Google Fi are Android 7, and the ability to receive LTE Bands 2 & 4.
Or if it is an iPhone it will need to be running iOS 11 or higher.
The BYOP will only have access to the T-Mobile network.

That was my confusion. If i want to add a BYOP or BYOD that are sprint devices it seems they should be able to access the sprint network through Fi.

Hi themaddarkness00, welcome to the Google Fi User Forum!
Designed for Fi phones have a few features that have to be agreed upon by the manufacturer. For instance, the sim card has multiple virtual sims configured on it (most phones only see the first virtual sim - t-Mobile) and the phone has to have low level access to switch sims automatically (this isn't a normal privilege).
Hope this helps!
