When receiving group MMS messages I will occasionally get the message: "MMS delivery failure; please contact Google Fi Support (1-844-TALK2Fi).  Not sure what's causing this problem as other members of the group have no problem receiving these messages.  I also receive replies from others in the group to the original message that I was unable to receive.

Hello Bruce - I, personally, have not seen that error message. Has this started recently or has it been going on for a while?

I would suggest you clear storage and cache of the Carrier Services and Messages Apps. Then reboot your phone, give it a min or two after the reboot and see if that solves your problem.

Thanks.  This has been occurring for a while.  Clearing cache and data had no effect.

I'm having the same issue.  Some additional notes:
  • Possibly unrelated but worth mentioning: my Pixel 3 on Google Fi has a large list of outstanding pending updates including Carrier Services which just won't download/install.  I've booted into Safe Mode in order to try to light a fire under those updates to get them going again [Hold down physical power button » hold down "Power Off"]
  • As part of troubleshooting I switched to Hangouts as the sms/mms client (from Messenger).  Not sure if that proved anything since I switched back to Messenger. (A better test might be to stay in Hangouts until receiving the error and I may try that next time if it happens again if the above doesn't work for me.)

I have the same issue on my phone, went through a call with a Google Fi Rep, he recommended updating, but I didn't have any updates to make.  Please advise if you have solutions.

Same thing for me. Random letters appear when people talk normally. Example: goodbye. XsE4ufgjh987 . And when I get a video, it does the MMS ERROR problem again.

Google FI team, this issue is still going on for a while already and no action is taken so far.

I have the same problems. I sometimes get random text added to messages, sometimes don't receive messages, sometimes get the mms delivery failure message: MMS delivery failure; please contact Google Fi Support (1-844-TALK2FI).(long string of text)
Pixel 3 XL, system and apps are up to date.

Same problems here.  I am receiving not one but two texts saying both "MMS delivery failure; please contact Google Fi support" as well as duplicate "Voicemail notification failure; please contact Google Fi Support". Both of these are followed by a very long string of letters and numbers.  I am also occasionally receiving duplicate texts from people followed by a line of random letters.  This began happening just this week.

All the same problems plus I keep getting the message that my Fi account isn't active and then I can't activate it. Had this for a couple months now, once I speak to a rep and they change some settings then it works for a few days. Latest was this morning, have now factory reset. I was told this will definitely fix the issue. We will see... Ugh

A friend of my wife, who is on a separate Google Fi plan (using a Pixel XL), is having the same issue. My wife has an iPhone 11 and has had a few issues with sending/receiving texts since being added to my plan 2 months ago. This is the latest.

Not sure if this solves everyone else's problems, but I was having issues after putting the SIM card from my older Nexus 5X phone into an iPhone 8. SMS messages had a string with a tilda and random letters (ex. ~Nt8gGhytsx) at the end. I called Google Fi and the solution was to install the Google Fi app and go through activation upon opening the app for the first time. Restarted the phone and new text messages are now coming in fine. Hope this is helpful for someone else!

What @janine said worked for me too!  I installed the app and said "use existing sim", restarted my phone and it worked!!  I got a text from Google Fi with image attached a few mins later and now i get group sms + mms images after long long last.
